"I have successfully completed my first WASC visit as a visiting committee member! This experience has been truly invaluable, giving me firsthand insight into why accreditation is so important. During this visit, I realized that student needs evolve as demographics change. Often, those within a school—whether faculty or leadership—may not fully recognize these shifts. An external agency like WASC plays a crucial role in ensuring that student learning remains the priority. It also challenged me to step back and focus on outcomes determined by WASC as the marks of an excellent school rather than outputs used within the school's context. What works in my school may not work in another school. I came to appreciate how essential WASC is in maintaining a high-quality program in the international world of education. Without this oversight, schools could unknowingly steer off course, and students might miss out on the essential life skills needed for their future success. Thanks and appreciation to Martina Moetz for hosting a wonderful week of learning at St. Gilgen International School. Having visited the school virtually in October 2021, it has been wonderful to witness and be a part of the growth and development of the school and its community.
