The American Cancer Society is honored to announce our Inaugural 2025 Memphis Advisory Council. The council consists of Memphis area leaders who are passionate about the American Cancer Society’s mission to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. Through their time and resources, these ardent volunteers are driven to fight for every cancer, every life in their Memphis community.

Last week, we had the honor of inviting Karen M Winkfield, MD, PhD, a member of the ACS CAN Board of Directors and the Executive Director of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance and professor, to dedicate a Hope Lodge room to her late husband, Jeffery Walker. Jeffery’s journey with type 2 diabetes prompted Dr. Winkfield to pursue patient advocacy. She’s a national expert in community engagement with research focused on designing and implementing programming to reduce sociocultural and economic barriers that contribute to disparate health outcomes for racial/ethnic minorities and underserved populations. Thank you, Dr. Winkfield, for joining us in advocating for every cancer, every life!
