  • Are you a company looking to get involved with college programs and support STEM education of youth across the nation? If so, ACS@Berkeley has two exciting opportunities just for you! ? Throughout the first half of our Fall Semester, our members have been hard at work planning for a few capstone events, and there are multiple ways in which your company can participate: ?? Fall 2024 Berkeley Science Bowl (BSB) One of the largest student-run Science Bowl competitions in the United States, BSB attracts over 200 participants and 100 volunteers each year. This fall, we are hosting teams from 48 schools - many attending from out-of-state -?in a multi-round tournament with original questions written by our Education committee. As such, we are seeking sponsorship from companies to offset our logistical expenses. We offer multiple sponsorship tiers with varying benefits. Please check out our website (https://www.berkeleysb.org) for more information, and reach out to us through email ([email protected]) if interested. The deadline to confirm sponsorship is November 8th. ?? Spring 2025 Evening with Industry (EWI) Our annual campus-wide chemistry-focused career fair is making its return! Hosting over 150 students and 24 companies last year, we are hoping to expand even larger this upcoming Spring. If your company is looking to recruit students from the UC Berkeley College of Chemistry for internships, jobs, research positions, and more, this is an amazing event to promote your programs and opportunities on-campus, and network with interested students. The company packet with further details can be found here (https://lnkd.in/gJB86inH). Registration is already open (https://lnkd.in/dpiv-r3P) and will close towards the end of the 2024 year! Feel free to email us at [email protected] with any questions or concerns. Subscribe to our Industry Partners Newsletter (https://lnkd.in/d6nmYp8u) to stay updated about opportunities and activities with ACS@Berkeley, and visit https://lnkd.in/dENveen6 to learn more about our organization!

  • Following the end of an eventful Spring 2024 semester, our student members are beginning their internships, global research projects, and fulfilling summer adventures. Our successes this semester would not have been possible without our industry partners who have helped connect students with these opportunities and have allowed ACS@Berkeley to grow professionally. Highlights of this semester:? ?? I(c)onic Bonds: An Evening With Industry -- our annual career fair that helps connect industry leaders with UC Berkeley's College of Chemistry students! On February 7th, we had over 150 students meet with and connect with 24 companies. Thank you to all of you who were able to attend! A special thank you to all of our corporate sponsors: Henkel, Eikon Therapeutics, Catalent Pharma Solutions, Clariant, Asher Biotherapeutics, Ammobia, and Procter & Gamble! ???? Berkeley Chemistry Tournament -- On April 14, we hosted our inaugural Berkeley Chemistry Tournament (BCT). Over 50 students from 12 schools from around the region were able to come to Berkeley and compete in both a lab and quiz events. Thank you to the ASUC and College of Chemistry for sponsoring this event -- please reach out if your organization is interested in engaging with future Chemistry Tournaments! ?? Hanging with Hawkwood – Our Corporate Committee had the pleasure of having Hawkwood Biotech Partners and College of Chemistry alumni Vatshal Bhanushali and Sanya Sehgal on campus to introduce their work and career experience with our students on April 16th. Lastly, ACS@Berkeley's Fall 2024 Berkeley Science Bowl Invitational is coming up and we are looking for sponsors! BSB last year drew 36 teams and 180 students from across the West Coast, in addition to gathering over 70 UC Berkeley student volunteers. If you're interested in sponsoring or learning more about BSB, please reach out to us at [email protected]. • Two weeks ago, ACS@Berkeley hosted a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect (DEIR) in STEM Fair, featuring a Professor & Graduate Student Panel, followed by a poster session on prominent figures in STEM whose identity embodies our understanding of DEIR. Posters were presented by student organizations: ACS@Berkeley, Alpha Chi Sigma, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and Hispanic Scientists and Engineers (HES). During our panel, we were honored to hear from Professors Richmond Sarpong, Anne Baranger, College of Chemistry’s Chief Diversity Officer Marissa Elena Yá?ez, PhD, as well as Graduate Students Abigail Hinojosa and Pedro Guimar?es Martins. The topics in our discussion focused on how our faculty and graduate students’ identities as well as the concept of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect has shaped their journey in academia, how they have overcome feelings of frustration due to challenges they have faced in their academic environment, and lastly, how students can help promote DEIR and support each other throughout our own journeys today. We hope this event encouraged students to scout for resources available on campus (e.g. Dr. Yanez Officer Hours), Undergraduate and Graduate student communities (e.g. the Normalization of Diversity and Equity (NODE) Program), and as Professor Sarpong suggested, for students to say hi to someone new everyday! Finally, thank you to the American Chemical Society for providing resources to ACS student communities, helping us to create more inclusive and respectful spaces on our campus.

  • Earlier this month, we hosted our capstone career fair, “I(c)onic Bonds: An Evening with Industry,” with great success. 24 companies joined us to make early professional opportunities available to the College of Chemistry community and met an excellent attendance of motivated and curious students. We’d like to extend a special thank you to our generous donors, Maze Therapeutics, Henkel, Eikon Therapeutics, Catalent, Clariant, and Asher Bio for supporting ACS@Berkeley’s mission! We look forward to another year of providing professional and educational opportunities to the College of Chemistry and Berkeley community as a whole. If you were in attendance, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to fill out this feedback form (https://lnkd.in/gvagEBPK). We are always seeking ways to improve so that we can provide the best experience possible for companies and students alike. All attending company representatives have been automatically subscribed to our Company Newsletter, which we plan to send out once or twice a semester. The newsletter will have updates on our recent events as well as future events that your company may sign up to attend. If you were unable to attend this year, but would be interested in similar events, please email us at [email protected] and we can subscribe you to our newsletter. We also have a separate newsletter for students interested in attending these career fairs, infosessions, and workshops that we host. You may subscribe yourself to our student newsletter at this link (https://lnkd.in/gpPbaJST).
