Assistant Professor of Architecture Suzanne Lettieri is among the recipients of the 2024–2025 Faculty Fellowship to Advance Equity in Architecture. The upcoming issue of TECHNOLOGY | ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN (TAD) welcomes submissions addressing new and original research on architecture, design, and technology concerning innovation. ? ? Authors may address the following questions, but they can be broader than these areas. How do we approach and manage imaginative ideas? What is the notion of challenging or rethinking the concept of innovation in our discipline? When is it desirable? When can our actions or attitudes of privileging novelty over long-standing practices impact inventive ideas?? ? TAD invites original and innovative research from scholars, practitioners, researchers, and students. Contributions to the issue focus area are encouraged, but TAD will consider all papers that meet the TAD mission statement. Projects by two Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design students captured two of the 10 awards handed out in the national AIA COTE Top Ten for Students Competition. The competition is sponsored by?The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Committee on the Environment?(AIA COTE), in partnership with the?Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture?(ACSA). According to the?ACSA website, the program challenges students to design projects that use a creative and innovative, thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems and technology to provide design solutions that protect and enhance the environment. The projects by Israel Zamorano and?Matt Schroeder were among 10 that address the impacts of climate change. Both projects also emphasize achieving net-zero emissions, adapting to resilient climate impacts?and addressing social and environmental inequities. Zamorano is a fifth-year architecture student from Conway, and Schroeder is a fourth-year architecture student from Hurst, Texas. “These recognitions reflect the commitment the Fay Jones School Department of Architecture has made in applied design that addresses climate change,” said John Folan AIA, LEED AP, department head and professor of architecture. “Israel and Matthew’s work on two very different projects developed in different educational contexts demonstrates the potency of teaching by advising faculty?and the departmental faculty as a whole. The sensibilities represented in the work of these two very talented and dedicated students represent a culture and way of thinking that is shared by their colleagues.
