Did you know that 100-400 new short-term rentals are reported per month in Puerto Rico, with apartments representing 60% of properties available for that purpose? Short-term rentals can be a double-edged sword for a community. They help create jobs and attract visitors — but can also lead to increased evictions for locals. “It’s an economic benefit,” says resident Dulce del Río-Pineda. “At the same time, our young people especially find themselves without any hope of being able to buy their own home.
