On any given day, nearly 660,000 people in the U.S. are detained in jails, usually for pre-trial detention or to serve sentences for misdemeanors. Many people - including detained individuals and prison administrators - don't know that individuals in jail pre-trial or for a misdemeanor conviction can vote in Maryland. We, along with our partners at Expand the Ballot Coalition, recently published a report to shine a light on voting in jails and prisons across the state of Maryland.
