The ACLS Open Access Book Prize and Arcadia Open Access Publishing Award aspire to generate enthusiasm and prestige for open access publication among humanistic scholars. Supported by a generous three-year grant from Arcadia—a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, the prizes further aim to raise public awareness of the resources freely available to anyone with an internet connection.

On October 22, during Open Access Week, the American Council of Learned Societies made the long journey to these Coast Salish territories to place the inaugural award of the ACLS OA Book Prize (Multimodal category) in the hands of Elsie Paul and her co-authors Davis McKenzie, Paige Raibmon and Harmony Johnson. In the photo authors are joined by Darcy Cullen founder of RavenSpace Publishing, the digital publisher of As I Remember It: Teachings (??ms tɑ?ɑw) from the Life of a Sliammon Elder (https://lnkd.in/g4Xfty9j), and Sarah McKee of the ACLS.
This week in Vancouver, ACLS, UBC Press, and RavenSpace Publishing honored the authors of "As I Remember It: Teachings (??ms tɑ?ɑw) from the Life of a Sliammon Elder," winner of the 2024 ACLS Open Access Book Prizes in the multimodal category. Congratulations to authors Davis McKenzie, Paige Raibmon, and Harmony Johnson, and a special thank you to Elsie Paul, author and Elder of the Tla'amin Nation, for speaking at the ceremony at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC!
