With more than 20 years of documented accomplishments leading teams of up to 75 people and simultaneously managing 10-20 projects ranging from $5,000 to $3.5 million in size, Derek Achenbach boasts an extraordinary track record that includes producing 99+% customer satisfaction and 99+% on-time, on-budget delivery over the course of more than 200 total projects. With strengths that include leading people, honing processes, juggling competing priorities, and multi-tasking with expert skill, these accomplishments are no surprise to those who have worked with Mr. Achenbach over the years. While his work has thus far focused primarily in the technical project management discipline within the telecommunications, call center, and software industries, distinguishing Mr. Achenbach from many of his peers are his advanced business degrees. From the University of Phoenix, Mr. Achenbach has earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.). Currently, he is working on a Doctorate of Business Administration (D.B.A.). The current working title for his dissertation is “How service-oriented businesses can enhance revenue streams through partnership relations with core companies: A contact center offering.” As a senior project manager at Aria Solutions, Mr. Achenbach has combined his strong business credentials with his project management expertise to deliver strong results to the company. When he was first hired, the company was generating 70% of its business through indirect sales. Mr. Achenbach created an infrastructure of project management processes, standards, and systems that have shifted the company’s focus to higher-potential sources, with 80% of revenue now coming from direct sales. As a direct result of these contributions, the company has grown dramatically, doubling revenue in a single year to a height of $10 million. This was completed while managing his own portfolio of projects for blue-chip clients in the U.S. and globally, including BofA, AMEX , Chase, IBM, Apple, EDMC , Huntington Bank, BB&T, Nordea, Bupa, Banco De Brazil. Accomplishments from working with his clients have been equally impressive and speak directly to his uncommonly strong interpersonal skills as well as his expertise in redesigning business processes to achieve desired business results. For major clients he has driven excellent metrics, including a 20% increase in customer retention for one and 10% increase in agent productivity for another. On one of his showcase projects for a client who has since served as a reference that has directly resulted in more than $1 million new business, after delivering successfully and so efficiently that Aria’s margin was $200,000 more than expected, two new $700,000 projects were secured with the client who also specifically requested that Mr. Achenbach be assigned as project manager. Similar results were obtained previously, from 2003 – 2008, within his own independent consulting firm, during which time he worked with clients that included Lucent Technologies, Apple, IBM, McKesson, TelCove, Quest, and AT&T. From 1999 – 2003, Mr. Achenbach worked for TelCove (Telephone company), earning performance based promotions every year, from technician to project manager and field engineer to system administrator. His accomplishments during this time included the administration, engineering, and design of a $3.5 million ACD system for the State of PA, a project that was $700,000 in the red at time of his promotion that he ultimately turned around to achieve profitability. Of additional note, he also generated a new $150 million data/telephony contract with the State of PA as direct result of the reference obtained following a highly successful project involving the installation and troubleshooting of 4,000+ phone and data lines for Hershey Foods Corporation.
