"Regardless of the 'temporary' challenge of the day, an investigator is always trying to wrap up their cases, so picking which one to prioritize and bring to the finish line as quickly as possible (at the expense of working another case) is an ever-present challenge." ?Steven Russell was convicted of fraud twice and sentenced to jail in 1996. Incredibly, he spent the next 27 years in solitary confinement in a Texas maximum security facility — the same one that houses inmates on death row — before his release in 2024. The reason for Russell’s seemingly harsh sentence? He escaped from prison five times. His story became the subject of the motion picture, "I Love You Phillip Morris," starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. In this webinar, ACFE President John Gill, J.D., CFE, will interview Russell about his frauds, his escapes and the lessons learned from nearly three decades in prison. *The ACFE does not compensate convicted fraudsters.?

This year’s International Fraud Awareness Week is in full swing, and the momentum has been incredible! This morning, we were honored to celebrate a special moment here in Austin, Texas. ACFE staff members visited Austin City Hall, where an official proclamation was issued to formally recognize International Fraud Awareness Week in our home city. John Warren, J.D., CFE shared inspiring words live on ATXN, joined by Austin City Council Member Vanessa Fuentes (District 2), who presented the proclamation on behalf of Mayor Kirk Watson and the City of Austin. It’s an honor to see the city’s leadership championing awareness in the fight against fraud. #FraudWeek
