  • Happy Alumni April! Today we are welcoming Joshua Bates. He is a '22 UMass Boston Alumni and now works as a Software Engineer at Liberty Mutual Investments. During his undergrad, he interned at Convention Data Services and Liberty Mutual. To current students and recent grads, he writes: “Push the boundaries of your comfort zone. You’d be surprised the opportunities that arise when you stop relying on what’s familiar. Make sure you’re taking advantage of everything around you right now. The piece of paper at the end is nice, but the extremely valuable resources around you right now won’t always be there.”

  • Happy Alumni April! Today we are welcoming Justin Gagnon. He is a ’15 UMass Boston Alumni, and now works at Stanford Healthcare. During his undergrad, he interned at Northeastern University within their Exercise Science Lab. To current student and recent grads, he writes: “Do not chase a certain title, or entering somewhere that may be appealing on a resume. Follow your true interest and passion. In the end that’s what will bring the best out of you, and allow you to help others. Hold your objective in front of you at all times. It’s rarely a straight shot to a goal. Some side stepping is just fine. Overcome your obstacles. It’s not about what knocks you down. It’s about how you pick yourself back up. But most importantly, how you can end up being a guide for others to follow.” #ACES?#UMassBoston?#UMB?#AlumniApril?#Alumni?#Networking?#Advice?#AlumniAdvice

  • Happy Alumni April! Today we are welcoming Paige Berry. She is a '14 UMass Boston Alumni who majored in Psychology and Sociology and minored in Communications. Now she is a Senior Prospect Research Analyst at Northeastern University. During her undergrad, she interned at New England Aquarium, Boston Children's Museum, Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, Peace First, UMass Boston Graduate School, and Edward M. Kennedy Institute for United States Senate - over the course of 1 1/2 years, and every internship was in Development (also known as Fundraising)! To current students and recent grads, she writes: “It's okay if you don't find your dream job right away! In your first job or even in your first few jobs, seek out opportunities to discover what you love, pinpoint what you'd rather not do in future jobs, and very importantly, get to know yourself at a deeper level, however you can. If you're lucky enough to discover your passion, dive in fully! Seek out internships, go on informational interviews, or even find a mentor. Many professional organizations will offer scholarships for students to attend conferences. Conferences are an opportunity to really get a feel for what's tried and true and what's new in your chosen field. I will never forget attending a fundraising conference while I was still a student, or the lessons I learned from paid and unpaid internships, or touring the UMass Boston fundraising office and speaking to every person there, learning as much as I could about each of their jobs so that I could get an idea of what direction I hoped my career would go. I'm forever grateful for the opportunities I had as a student, which directly led me to a fulfilling career.”
