Meet Melissa Adrion, one of our Affiliate Scholarship winners from 2022 and Alumni?Scholarship win! Melissa is enrolled at The University of Akron for Mechanical Engineering and has been awarded $6,500 in Affiliate and Alumni Scholarships! ?? Melissa, an Alumni of Ellet CLC, also participated in our Summer Experience program where she was paid $1,800 while gaining onsite industry learning and real-life experience with ODOT District 4. The work experience Melissa gained right after her high school graduation gave her an edge in getting hired at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company where Melissa had been an intern for the past two summers. It is at Goodyear that Melissa was able to connect with her Transformative Partner Ashley J., who gives Melissa continued mentor support through college. Melissa would like to increase diversity in engineering academics and encourages students to continue with their path and dreams and know that anything is possible! ?? Meet Allison Agosti, our first Alumni to graduate college and go into the field of Architecture: ? Allison shared the following in her alumni scholarship application - "I have had an incredible experience with my ACE mentors. I started the ACE program my junior year of high school (2019) still unsure of what career path I wanted to take. I was fortunate to be a part of the Akron-Canton pilot program, it was such an informative experience. I got to have direct conversations with individuals who actually worked in the construction field and was able to be exposed to so much. ACE ensured me that architecture was really what I wanted to do and made graduating that much easier. During my time in ACE, I was able to create meaningful relationships with my mentors that are still invested in my journey to this day. Last summer I was given the opportunity by my mentors to shadow a their firm called CESO, INC. I was able to see a real workplace and introduced myself to so many people in the field. The most valuable lesson I learned from ACE was to always reach out to those who are there to guide you. You never know what opportunities await because of the connections you have made." Allison participated in our Transformative Partner program. In this program, we match our alumni with mentors in the industry who will provide support each month while they are attending college. Allison's Transformative Partner was Amber Duco, with Hasenstab Architects, Inc. Amber shared her knowledge in the industry, internship opportunities, and offered Allison continued mentor support for her career path. ?? She earned her bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and is currently working for ACS Architectural Construction Services, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio! ??

Meet Caley Barnett, one of our Affiliate and Alumni Scholarship winners!?Caley is currently attending The University of Akron to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering! ?? Please read Caley's response to the most valuable lesson she learned during her time being mentored- "I believe it is very important for the youth to be mentored. I think it allows them the option to build a network and ask questions from people that have more experience not only in the career field but also just in life. My experience with ACE was very short due to Covid, but I got to meet and talk to professionals and see what it was like to work alongside people in a business work type of setting. It also allowed me to build a friendship and helped prepare me for what to expect going into college." Caley is also participating in our Transformative Partner program where we match our alumni with mentors in the industry who will provide support each month while they are attending college. One day is NOT enough so we will be sharing all week! International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. Marked annually on March 8th, IWD is one of the most important days of the year to: - Celebrate women's achievements - Educate and awareness raise for women's equality - Call for positive change advancing women - Lobby for accelerated gender parity - Fundraise for female-focused charities Let's celebrate these hard-working and talented ladies! ??

Looking for a Camp to keep your Architecture student engaged this summer? Check out what Kent State University is offering! The Architectural Exploration Program (AEP) at College of Architecture & Environmental Design at Kent State University is developed to introduce college level design education for high school students. The intensive two-week program will take place on the Kent campus in July 2025 and offers rigorous individual instruction by CAED faculty.
