This week meet Jerry Spinelli, our exceptional Special Testing Coordinator! ? Jerry is a Kent State University biology graduate who joined ACE Laboratories in 2021, bringing with him valuable experience from working in an ISO 17025 accredited lab environment. As our Special Testing Coordinator, Jerry is responsible for interpreting and implementing various test methods that often extend beyond our 'normal' day-to-day testing. He has been instrumental in modifying methods to test non-standard materials and designing custom fixtures for testing machines to handle uniquely shaped samples. Jerry has also been a voting member of ASTM Committee D08 on roofing and waterproofing since 2015, and has made a significant impact on the growth of our services for the construction industry. ? Last week ACE Laboratories CEO Erick Sharp, along with Gregg P. Cramer from the Greater Akron Chamber (GAC) and John Rizzo from the Akron-Canton Advocacy Alliance (ACAA), joined over 200 business owners at Capitol Hill in Washington DC to participate in the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Washington Presentation. ? This important annual event provides small business owners with a platform to directly voice their needs to policymakers, discuss challenges and advocate for policies that foster a more supportive business environment. ? As a recognized 6PPD expert, Erick also took the opportunity to meet with several congressional offices to discuss the need for increased support in innovation related to 6PPD alternatives, leveraging our extensive work with customers and insight into the most pressing challenges faced by the rubber and tire industries on this critical issue. ? Next week it’s “Rubber Explained” from ACE Laboratories! There’s still time to sign up for our popular “Rubber Explained” course on September 24-25, led by Kylie Knipp, ACE’s Senior Technical Account Manager. The course runs from 9 am to 3 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn, Twinsburg, including lunch (and then there’s the opportunity to stay for the Ohio Rubber Group Technical Meeting from 4 - 9 pm). On the following day, September 25, join us for a tour of our laboratories from 9 - 11 am. We have had hundreds of rubber industry professionals and students take this course as part of the extensive range of training and educational opportunities offered by Rubber Division, ACS. Designed for newcomers to the industry, non-technical professionals, and students, it covers the basic theory and fundamentals of the industry, including raw materials, formulations, costings, mixing, fabrication processes, and testing methods. Attendees will receive continuing education units (CEUs) through a Rubber Division, ACS partnership with The University of Akron. The course is free for Rubber Division, ACS Undergraduate Student Members, $100 for other student members, and Ohio Rubber Group members can attend at no cost.
