????????? ???? ?????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????!? In this video, Exergenics' Iain Stewart discusses the importance of optimizing primary chilled water pumps in HVAC systems. He explains the two main functions of these pumps: * Maintaining chilled water supply to the chiller * Distributing chilled water to air handling units Stewart also highlights the opportunity for optimization by implementing pressure and flow resets, particularly when chillers are operating at part load. By reducing the flow rate, the delta T (temperature difference) across the chiller can be increased, improving efficiency. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a higher delta T to ensure optimal chiller performance. I hope this post is helpful! Looking forward to learning more from other experts like Iain! #Optimization #Chiller #Chillerplant #sustainability #decarbonization #buildings #smartbuildings

ACE IoT Solutions LLC is excited to join a powerhouse panel discussion of "OT with an IT Mindset: Governance and Cybersecurity to Enable Digital Buildings" at #NexusCon next week. #Digitization and #OT-#IT convergence are hot topics in #smartbuildings and, for organizations to advance these goals, effective #governance and #cybersecurity are paramount. Given the line-up of panelists, the session will be chockablock with real-world examples and hard-earned lessons learned. Make sure you grab an early coffee - we'll get started Tuesday, October 1 @ 9:30a. For those unable to attend NexusCon this year, do you have any burning questions that should Andrew Rodgers pose to his fellow panelists? Please post questions in the comments and we'll respond by posting a summary of the panel's responses. April Y. Building system nerd alert! The technical team at ACE IoT has been thinking about optimizing #chillers. Andrew Rodgers just shared a brief video related to "free cooling." Are these bite-size technical deep-drives interesting/helpful? Please let us know! Shout out to Iain Stewart and Exergenics!
?? Demystifying Chiller Optimization ?? I've been thinking about chillers recently, and the huge potential for energy savings they represent. Unfortunately, chiller optimization has an aura of the dark arts around it, and to even understand some of the terms means poring over #ASHRAE papers that require learning even more esoteric terms. So I reached out to the folks that know more about chiller system optimization than anyone else I know, Exergenics. Iain Stewart and I had an amazing chat where he broke down some common, if opaque terms that helped me out a lot, hopefully you find it helpful too. The full video should drop soon, but in the meantime, here's a little preview explaining "Free cooling" in the context of a water-cooled chilled-water plant (whew). Shout-out to the Nexus Labs community that initially connected Iain and I, and for fostering the kind of environment that folks are willing to help each other out and share their incredible knowledge. #Energy #Sustainability #Climate #Chillers #Optimization #ASO

ACE IoT Solutions LLC was very pleased to join a Smart Data for Energy dialogue convened by the Roosevelt Strategic Council. Here are a few key takeaways/learnings from the event: Donald Coffelt outlined important multi-departmental efforts to advance "data maturity" being undertaken by the IT and OT leadership of Carnegie Mellon University. Kunal Chitre of Siemens offered a compelling definition of "Smart Data"--Smart Data is machine-readable, semantical enriched, correlated and accessible. Austin Wallace, M.A. from the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) highlighted the work of ASHE's Sustainability and Decarbonization Committee. Sharing work that Introba has completed for customers including Georgia Institute of Technology and the City of Washington DC, Calina Ferraro outlined impressive building modeling work using a trained #AI model and surprisingly limited data sources. Raj Setty and Michael Do, CEM, CxA demonstrated how Setty's syyclops #digitaltwin offering includes an #AI assistant designed to ensure building operators have ready access to critical information about facilities and equipment. https://lnkd.in/gcnUrQzR

Berkeley Lab has launched a "Smarter Small Buildings Campaign" to accelerate adoption of best practice rooftop HVAC operations for small and medium buildings. Optimizing the performance of smaller buildings is a significant challenge--but it is a challenge with a very significant payoff. At ACE IoT, we believe #opensource projects, including #volttron, can provide valuable tools for #smartbuilding solutions providers brave enough to target smaller buildings! Shout out to Srinivas Katipamula for his research related to automated system optimization solutions deployed in buildings without Building Automation Systems. Kudos to Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy and the lab for convening stakeholders and establishing a structure through which stakeholders can share best practices. ACE IoT Solutions LLC is thrilled to be a partner in this important effort. Happy Demand Flexibility Day!! What is Demand Flexibility Day -- and why is it worth celebrating? Solutions that enable and support Demand Flexibility (#DF) help curb electricity demand when the strain on the grid is high. DF solutions can direct controllable assets (eg #smartthermostats, #EVchargers, water heaters, and heat pumps) to consume more electricity when demand is low (overnight) or when renewables are in active production (like midday for solar). At scale DF solutions can help utilities and the communities they serve avoid costly investments in transmission, brown-outs and other resilience risks. Shout out to Jennifer Szaro and AESP for the helpful "DF" resources. ACE IoT is thrilled to work on DF projects in collaboration with organizations including: Tennessee Valley Authority Middle Tennessee Electric Murfreesboro Housing Authority SmartMark Communications Slipstream Texas A&M University, LUMA Energy, IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, Cooperativa Hidroeléctrica de la Monta?aé City of Madison, WI Madison Gas and Electric HGA Oak Ridge National Laboratory Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Berkeley Lab https://lnkd.in/eYRt4PMp #volttron #demandflexibilityday #demandflexibility

The dog days of summer seem a perfect time to respond to a question from ACE IoT’s Mailbag. Q: Tenants in my building are requesting access to their energy usage and HVAC operations data. Can deploying an ACE IoT Independent Data Layer (#IDL) help me provide the data my tenants are requesting? If so, how would it work? A: The easy answer is—YES. An ACE IoT IDL can provide a cost effective and secure avenue for: -collecting building operations data, -segmenting the collected data by zone, -assigning zones to tenants and -making available to tenants their HVAC operations data on a near real-time basis. Additionally, once data acquisition is established, ACE IoT can help establish virtual submeters that calculate energy usage or other key metrics Securely segregating data and providing virtual submetering in a BMS is difficult and time consuming. In the absence of an IDL, a building owner who wishes to provide tenant-specific data would, most likely, need to pay a BMS provider to manually setup virtual points for each tenant. An IDL powered by the #opensource #Volttron technology can change the calculus. Read our most recent blog to learn more about how an ACE IoT IDL can support segmenting data for tenants in commercial buildings and virtual sub metering. https://lnkd.in/eXnzdzEy Ruairí M.
