CMS announced that ACOs in the Medicare Shared Savings Program achieved $2.1 billion in net savings in 2023, the highest in the program’s history! With 480 ACOs now serving nearly 11 million Medicare beneficiaries we are raising the bar on quality care. Key wins: *Highest-Ever Performance Payments: ACOs earned a total of $3.1 billion, a major milestone. *Quality on the Rise: Improved outcomes in areas like diabetes, blood pressure, cancer screening, and depression treatment. *Primary Care Power: ACOs led by primary care clinicians saw significantly higher savings per person. With 10,000 attendees dedicated to making an impact in healthcare, it's safe to say our feeds are buzzing with highlights from celebrities and keynote speakers. Here are my top insights and takeaways: 1. AI Everywhere: AI is set to revolutionize healthcare, if you didn’t see GE’s announcement check it out. 2. VBC: A continued focus on value-based care shows promise for transforming patient outcomes and enhancing the overall experience. 3. Women’s Health: There’s a significant push towards improving tech and awareness in women’s health, and it’s inspiring to see so many passionate advocates in this space. I believe there’s no industry quite like healthcare tech when it comes to dedication and passion. Connecting with like-minded individuals and sharing insights was a highlight of my time at HLTH. The networking opportunities were endless. Sitting at a table with 9 physicians getting insights into their current issues, workflows and gaps was invaluable. Trying to sum up today at the MGMA Leaders Conference. I mostly want to highlight Halee Fischer-Wright, President and CEO of MGMA. She has always been a female leader I looked up to early in my career as a physician and best selling author. I remember about 15 years ago when she welcomed me into her pediatric office when I worked at Children's Hospital Colorado and provided monthly lunch-and-learns for her practice. It was motivating to see her on stage today in her element talking about the challenges practices and physicians face everyday. She emphasized leveraging technology as an ally to drive growth and encouraged using tech and tools to boost productivity to better serve patients. It’s clear that the hot topics in practices are focused on VBC, AI, cybersecurity, and information blocking. What I took away, which we all know in this industry, is that physician burnout is real and a significant problem. We are all building solutions and tech to address various challenges, but it was clear that providers are being encouraged from leaders to embrace technology. The key message from leaders is to focus on leveraging technology to enhance how physicians connect with patients and achieve greater fulfillment. The vision of advancing healthcare today for a better tomorrow is one we all share, and it aligns with MGMA's core mission. #mgma2024
