I spent last week in NY. What a week! I was incredibly fortunate to be one of the 2024 alumni of the American Express Leadership Academy for the Americas. Guided by an amazing group of teachers/coaches from Common Purpose covering topics from "leading beyond authority", "resiliency", "purpose", "imposter syndrome", "art of change"....asking ourselves what we take with us, and what we leave behind...what gives us the courage to make change happen. A reminder to never forget to be our authentic selves so we can influence others, make sure we evolve and adapt every single day, how to de-fog our messages, and so much more. We had some amazing guests join us Elizabeth Rutledge, Stacey Allaster C.C., Mark Tatum, Jennifer Skyler, Jim VandeHei, and Madge Thomas to name a few. Thank you to all the guests who took the time to be with us to share their thoughts about purpose, agility, forward-thinking, trust, and the magic of simplicity. For our Immersion, I chose to attend the Women in AI Summit. Women hold just 26% of data and AI-centered jobs, a troubling statistic considering the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. The solution lies in hiring, promoting, and retaining women leaders. As a group, we all came together after our immersions to reflect on what it takes to be a leader...and that it's a balancing act between flexibility and consistency. We worked hard and learned deeply as a cohort, we became vulnerable in a safe space and we built new friendships. So many to thank for this amazing opportunity. To the more than 70 non-profit leaders from across the Americas whom I shared this week with and who made this experience for me so humbling with the work that you all do, thank you/gracias. To all the sponsors that helped make this year's Leadership Academy in NY possible, thank you. It’s been a pleasure to continue to partner with?American Express, whose unwavering commitment to supporting the non-profit sector makes all this possible. We also welcome our incredible new partner to the team-National Basketball Association (NBA) Foundation. Without these partnerships, this would not be possible. At the heart of?our work at Common Purpose, we bring together diverse leaders and give them a powerful learning experience —and this week was no exception. We welcomed an extraordinary group of non-profit leaders from across ten countries of the Americas who took the time to?recharge, reset, and reconnect with their purpose. Witnessing their passion, resilience, and commitment to driving change was nothing short of inspiring. To all the brilliant participants: Thank you for inviting us into your world. Your honesty, energy, and shared hope for the future left a profound impact on all of us and will stay with me forever. As someone leading in the non profit space, I understand how challenging it can feel right now. Your stories resonated deeply with me—both the struggles and the determination to keep moving forward. My message to you (and myself!) is:?Keep going. Be on fire for the change you want to see—but don’t let it burn you out.
