March is National #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth. In the U.S., more than half of all colorectal cancers are attributable to lifestyle factors, such as an unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity, high alcohol consumption, and smoking. Oncologists in the U.S. are witnessing a concerning trend of younger people under the age of 50 being diagnosed with this deadly cancer. Our chief medical officer, Yousuf Zafar, MD, MHS, outlines why this trend is occurring and what you can do to decrease your risk of colorectal cancer. https://lnkd.in/dk-JjK46

Research consistently shows that what we put into our bodies can modify our cancer risk. Now that the FDA has banned synthetic color additive Red No. 3 based on scientific evidence linking the dye to cancer in laboratory animals, it’s important to review ingredient labels to avoid consumption. Red No. 3 can be found in a wide variety of common foods, drinks, and medicines including some cereals, strawberry-flavored beverages, gummy vitamins, and cough syrup. Here’s what you need to know about the ban from Andrea Rice Healthline Media #CancerNutrition #CancerPrevention https://lnkd.in/gf-iEAbb

Although long considered a disease of aging, certain cancers are turning up more often in younger women, according to a new report from American Cancer Society (ACS). The report found women under 50 are 82% more likely to develop cancer than their male counterparts, and for the first time, women ages 50-64 are being diagnosed at higher rates than men. The ACS also noted “alarming disparities” in Native American and Black populations. While as an industry we have made significant progress in cancer care innovation, early detection, and equitable access to care continue to play a critical role in patient outcomes.
