We love this Steel City synergy! Through ACCESS, researchers from the University of Pittsburgh used close-to-home #HPC resources at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to train #AI to predict when a railway may buckle or break. #EnablingDiscoveryforAll The team ran simulations on the Bridges-2 supercomputer, which allowed researchers to run simulations in a fraction of the time it would take on traditional computers. "I know that some of the last simulations we did [on Bridges-2] were a little over 1,500 cases or simulations for specific resistances and specific temperature changes. That took right around two weeks… We estimated it for our computing resources, at least in the lab. It would have taken well over a year, a year and a half." - Matthew Belding https://lnkd.in/gN3M77hh

Hey Baylor University Graduate School students...want #ACCESS to NO-COST high-performance computing resources, such as #AI, #ML, #DataStorage, or #GPU computing that cant be found at Baylor University? Checkout the #NSF ACCESS program and FABRIC via our web page at https://lnkd.in/gk54TdCM. We also presented our high-performance computing knowledgebase using Box #AIHub as a resource for querying questions on how to run Linux commands, Python queries, and many other questions for getting started with our high-performance computing system. Special thanks to Sara Dolan and Mike Hutcheson for joining me in presenting to Baylor Graduate Students today during our information session at the Baylor University - College of Arts & Sciences. A good turnout with many great questions from the students. One of my favorite parts of this job is interacting with such talented and capable graduate students. It brought joy to my day, along with wearing some Baylor green on #StPatricks Day. I asked the students if anyone knew why the 3-Leaf Clover was associated with #StPaddys day. Hit me up via LinkedIn Messaging for the answer! https://lnkd.in/gk54TdCM https://lnkd.in/gkG-y8bk

Want to know more about National Center for Supercomputing Applications supercomputer and ACCESS resource Delta? Then join this 90-minute virtual workshop Tuesday, March 18! Learn about Delta's advanced architecture that supports a wide range of scientific domains, particularly those that benefit from #GPU acceleration such as machine learning. Hands-on exercises will teach how to access Delta, manage the user environment, and run jobs and software. The content suits researchers and students new to working with a cluster and wanting to know more about Delta. #HPC #EnablingDiscoveryforAll More info: https://lnkd.in/g8d7pruS

Congratulations to Lauri Kyt?maa of Cornell University for receiving the Public Utility Research Center Prize from the International Industrial Organization for his research on the role of debt relief design and mortgage firm behavior in the United States foreclosure crisis. Lauri utilized #HPC allocations through ACCESS at two different institutions in the course of his work. “This project began during my graduate studies at the The University of Texas at Austin where I was working on the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) Stampede2 system,” Kyt?maa said. “The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) ACCESS program has allowed me to seamlessly continue leveraging the now upgraded Stampede3 system after I joined Cornell’s faculty. "My work on mortgage debt relief initiatives uses the ACCESS program allocations at TACC’s Stampede3 system to solve high-dimensional optimization problems in a manner of minutes. The same operations would take weeks or even months on a personal computer. This work would not have been possible without high-throughput computing and access to the ACCESS allocation program." https://lnkd.in/dmRRW-CN

Ready to learn about an amazing resource that you may not have heard about before? Read on!! The #KNIT10 conference at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, showcased the transformative potential of #FABRIC, an international infrastructure enabling cutting-edge experimentation in networking, cybersecurity, distributed computing, and more. I only recently learned of #FABRIC through the #NSF ACCESS program and was truly impressed with the resources offered through the program...at NO COST to higher education institutions, as it is funded by multiple NSF grants. Key Takeaways from #KNIT10 offered by the #FABRICtestbed: Advancing Cybersecurity Research: FABRIC's integration with production networks allows for at-scale, cybersecurity experiments, providing higher education researchers with the tools to develop and test robust security protocols and run diverse sets of experiments. By offering access to programmable network technologies like #P4 and #OpenFlow, FABRIC empowers universities to explore and design the next generation of internet architectures, inclusive of #5G and #6G, fostering innovation in science. This is done through gaining a "SLICE" of resources that could be offered through one or more nodes across different institutions. Integrating Emerging Technologies: The platform's capability to merge high-performance computing, wireless, IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, underpinned with #JupyterNotebooks, creates a rich environment for interdisciplinary research. I attended a session with Paul Ruth, a key leader in the FABRIC program (pictured), who offered insight on a "Hank" node that can be placed at an Institution. FUN FACT....a "Hank" is a measured unit of coiled or wrapped yarn or twine. Note the cleverness for the FABRIC program! During the session, it was clear that the #FABRIC team have provided several #JupyterNotebook based resources to run experiments. Researchers can also find other experiments and use their notebooks as a research template. So many resources available! Global Collaboration Opportunities: Through FABRIC Across Borders (FAB), institutions can engage in international collaborations, connecting with global partners to tackle complex scientific challenges and drive large-scale data-intensive research. Im thinking about some of our cutting-edge research at Baylor University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Baylor University with Kenichi Hatakeyama, Jay Dittmann, and Andrew Brinkerhoff. Their research with CERN and the Large Hadron Collider may benefit, as FABRIC offers cached resources that connect with CERN along a 1.2TB network backbone. You heard that right...1.2TB! #HigherEducation #ResearchInnovation #Cyberinfrastructure #KNIT10 #FABRICTestbed #NSF #ACCESS Check them out today, setup an account, and get your SLICE of #FABRIC https://lnkd.in/gHAYnNBG
