Did you know Access Architecture has been a #CarbonNeutral business since 2022? What does that mean? We look to reduce our operational carbon as much as possible, and then we participate in a carbon offset program for the remaining carbon our operations produce. We have already implemented several carbon reduction strategies and are always looking to implement more. Some current and planned strategies include: CURRENT STRATEGIES: -?Drastically reduced paper and courier usage by digitizing processes. -?Drastically reduced employee auto emissions by supporting highly flexible hybrid and fully remote work. -?Encouraging other modes of commuting by installing bike racks. -?Lowered energy usage by auto setting office temperatures to be lower during non-work hours. - Lowered energy usage by upgrading roof insulation. - Installed LED lighting throughout office. -?Purchasing sustainable office supplies whenever practical. PLANNED STRATEGIES: - Install net zero solar PV array on building. - Reimburse for mass transit / light rail pass, once new I5 bridge is constructed. A great starter resource for those interested in mass timber multifamily! We're honored that our TimberView project is featured among so many other innovative projects across the country. We're excited to see the use of mass timber continue to expand, and all the many benefits that come along with the use of this beautiful structural system.
How is mass timber shaping the future of affordable multi-family housing? Our new paper, A Blueprint for Design, explores successful projects across the U.S., where developers have built mass timber homes for residents earning as low as 25% of the area median income (AMI). Learn how design efficiency, material optimization, and a holistic approach to cost savings are making mass timber a competitive choice in affordable and mixed-income housing developments. Access to affordable homeownership is a dire need in communities across the country. We’re excited to be working with Evergreen Habitat for Humanity on an innovative, cottage-cluster affordable homeownership model. Access is designing efficient and functional prototypes that can be replicated, mirrored, and rotated. The prototypes allow for ease of volunteer labor construction and accommodate the installation of solar panels regardless of site and cottage orientation. These cottages will be coming to a site in Vancouver next year! Keep an eye out for updates from us, as well as from Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. They are doing amazing work expanding access to homeownership. You can read more about the project and about Evergreen Habitat here: https://lnkd.in/gF5inrSR

Post 2 of 2: The Paul & Geneva Knauls. Squeezed into a 50'x100' lot, The Knauls provides 31 units for veterans, with Do Good Multnomah as service provider. The 4-story mural above the main entry has yet to be painted. We'll follow up with additional photos once completed! We’re grateful for our collaboration with Self Enhancement, Inc., Community Development Partners, Colas Construction, and all the other members of the design and construction team. Post 1 of 2: The Ronnie Herndon. Photos of our completed Alberta Alive projects are finally in, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how these quality, urban infill buildings turned out! It was a huge team effort to design and build both buildings simultaneously on separate blocks. Both sites are extremely small, and required both the design and construction teams to quite literally utilize every square inch available. We’re grateful for our collaboration with Self Enhancement, Inc., Community Development Partners, Colas Construction, and all the other members of the design and construction team. After almost a year of being moved in, we finally got some real photos taken of our office! Keep flipping through to see the before photo, as well as a photo from the early 60s, when it was originally built. ?? : Josh Partee

We are excited to announce that Alberta Alive has been recognized as a Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon 2024 Top Project! The Ronnie Herndon and Paul & Geneva Knauls Buildings mark the first milestone in the Alberta Alive vision. These buildings provide 52 affordable housing units with supportive services for underserved individuals and families, including Veterans. This project, a collaboration with Self Enhancement, Inc., aims to celebrate and strengthen Portland’s historically Black N/NE neighborhoods. SEI is a pillar in the North Portland community and one of the city’s leading multi-service organizations. SEI provides thousands of African American youth, families, and adults with academic support and comprehensive wraparound services. As the Alberta Alive co-developer and lead resident services provider, their contributions have been invaluable. A big thank you to our project team: SEI, Colas Construction, Access Architecture, and Do Good Multnomah. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without you!
