At the GLC4HSR Annual Conclave's Inaugural Plenary, Mr. Siddharth Sharma, CEO, Tata Trusts, shared a powerful vision for building resilient health systems—one that goes beyond just responding to crises and instead focuses on creating lasting, adaptive frameworks for care. -Rural Healthcare Gaps: In rural India, patients often travel dozens of kilometers to access basic medical care. Supply chains are inconsistent, & care delivery is fragmented, leaving vulnerable communities without timely or consistent support. Strengthening healthcare resilience means addressing these systemic weaknesses—ensuring that people in the most remote areas have access to care without having to navigate complex and unreliable health systems. -Climate Change and Health Vulnerability: Climate change is amplifying health risks for underserved communities. Rising temperatures, air pollution, & extreme weather events disproportionately affect those already struggling with limited access to care. Many health incidents go unreported due to lack of access, low awareness, and social stigma. Building resilience means integrating climate and health strategies—ensuring that climate-vulnerable communities are equipped with the resources & support they need to withstand environmental challenges. - Strengthening Primary Healthcare (PHC): Mr. Sharma highlighted that 80% of health conditions can be addressed at the primary healthcare level—if PHCs are properly resourced and staffed. While India can build numerous tertiary care centers, without a robust and accessible PHC network, the system will remain strained. Expanding the reach and capacity of community health workers (CHWs) is essential to closing this gap and delivering care where it’s needed most. -The Untapped Potential of Telemedicine: Despite its proven effectiveness during the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine remains underutilized. Expanding telemedicine services can decongest healthcare facilities, reduce travel burdens, & improve access—especially in remote areas. Scalable models like the hub-and-spoke system can create decentralized care networks, making specialized services more accessible at the community level. -Building Trust: Ultimately, healthcare resilience is not just about infrastructure and services—it’s about building trust within communities. Without trust, even the most well-designed healthcare interventions may fail to reach those who need them most. Establishing trust means involving communities in healthcare decisions, ensuring transparency, and delivering consistent, high-quality care that meets people’s real needs. "Resilience is not just about surviving the next health crisis—it’s about creating a system that ensures care for everyone, every time." Mr. Siddharth Sharma’s message is a call to action: To build a future where healthcare is accessible, reliable, and equitable—for rural and urban communities alike. Stay tuned for more updates! #HealthEquity #HealthResilience #GLC4HSR #HealthForAll

ACCESS Health International MENA, in collaboration with the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), recently hosted two high-impact roundtable discussions, convening policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to address two pressing themes: Supply Chain Resilience and Health System Resilience in Conflicts and Mass Displacement. ?? Supply Chain Resilience A strong and efficient pharmaceutical supply chain is crucial for healthcare security and economic growth. Discussions highlighted: ? Regulatory reforms and digital transformation—expediting approvals by adopting Common Technical Document (CTD) standards and leveraging AI-driven analytics for real-time demand forecasting. ? Strengthening local manufacturing—Egypt already produces 91% of its medicines locally, yet there are critical gaps in anesthesia drugs, biologics, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Expanding local API production and biomanufacturing can reduce reliance on imports. ? Public-private partnerships—incentivizing local pharmaceutical investments and positioning Egypt’s pharmaceutical industry on the global stage. ? A national pharmaceutical database—enhancing transparency and decision-making to optimize supply chain resilience. ?? Health System Resilience in Conflicts & Mass Displacement With conflicts and displacement disrupting healthcare services globally, this roundtable focused on ensuring continuity of care and strengthening emergency response mechanisms. Key takeaways included: ? Balancing chronic disease management with acute crisis care—leveraging mobile health units and telemedicine to reach vulnerable populations in emergencies. ? Strengthening data-sharing mechanisms—to improve emergency response logistics and leveraging AI-driven crisis forecasting to enhance preparedness. ? Egypt’s self-reliant refugee healthcare model—a benchmark for sustainable crisis response, minimizing dependence on international aid. Looking Ahead The roundtables reinforced the importance of innovation, strategic investments, and proactive policy reforms in securing a sustainable and resilient healthcare system. As Egypt strengthens its position as a regional leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare innovation, sustained investments in digital health, supply chain security, and crisis preparedness will be key. A special thanks to H.E. Dr. Hala Zaid, Dr. Gamal El-Leithy, Dr. Mohie Hafez, Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed, Dr. Amir El Telwany, Eng. Hatem Kandil, Mr. Mostafa Moharram, and all participants for their invaluable contributions. #HealthcareResilience #SupplyChainInnovation #PharmaceuticalIndustry #PublicPrivatePartnerships #EgyptHealth #DigitalTransformation #CrisisResponse
