At Accelerating Appalachia, we believe in putting money directly into the hands of American farmers committed to building American markets through regenerative agriculture. To date, we've paid over $2 million in direct cash payments to support farmers in Central/Southern Appalachia and the rural southeast. Our program is more than farmer funding— it's a movement toward a thriving, resilient future. Want to learn more or get involved? 关于我们
Accelerating Appalachia is dedicated to promoting conservation agriculture throughout Central and Southern Appalachia, as well as the rural Southeast. Our mission is to support resilient regional production and manufacturing in food, fiber, and forest products. We have launched an innovative program aimed at improving soil health and expanding conservation farming across Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Southern Ohio, and Northern Georgia. This initiative is made possible through our USDA grant-funded farmer funding program. Through our Farmer Fund, we offer $12 million in cash incentives and an additional $6 million in training and marketing services. This funding will enable us to incentivize over 600 producers with direct incentives of up to $1,000 per acre for adopting conservation farming and forestry practices. As a participant in our farmer funding program, you will receive training in conservation farming, soil testing services, mentorship, peer support, and promotional opportunities through national, regional, and local media.

“Anyone who does farming understands how hard it is to make it and be sustainable,” explains North Carolina farmer, Christa Kelley. Feedback similar to Christa’s influenced how we decided to calculate incentive payments for farmers enrolled in our program. Too often, farmers told us that the money they received from traditional funding sources didn’t meet their needs. Accelerating Appalachia farmer funding program provides incentives that are approximately 30% higher than what traditional funding sources offer. Christa describes the impact of the funding she received from Accelerating Appalachia, stating, “The grant funds have been a tremendous help for our farm. Accelerating Appalachia’s help has allowed us to do more on the farm and look at ways to expand and be better farmers. They have been very helpful, informative, and easy to work with. We were in the path of Hurricane Helene, and they reached out to us in our time of need to make sure we were in good shape.” Keep up with Christa’s journey here: https://lnkd.in/gGAi2mUc #northcarolina #sustainablefarm #farmer

Through our farmer funding program, we uplift farmers like West Virginian Jeremy Cantrell and his wife Brenna Cantrell. Below, Jeremy shares how he used funding from us to adopt conservation practices: "With the funding, we've used it for electric netting and solar fence chargers for our sheep operation to help us graze through our fields and get into places where we don't have fences. We also purchased weed eaters with brush blades to get in there after they graze and cut down what is left that the sheep couldn't reach." Recently enrolled in our farmer funding program, Paul Wilson uses his walking stick and echo location to move around his 48-acre farm in Warfield, Virginia, where he raises vegetables and laying hens and is developing a sheep operation. Because Paul is blind, he’s designing his operation to ensure that he can manage the sheep independently, with the help of Sadie, his Border Collie. Find out how Paul is implementing sustainable practices like silvopasture (with funding from @acceleratingappalachia) on more than half of his land here ?? https://lnkd.in/gypJiRCr ??: National Center for Appropriate Technology #sustainablefarming #virginia #smallfarmers
