Developed the first and only scalable pollination technology for commodity crops
关于我们
PowerPollen offers a breakthrough, scalable technology to collect, preserve and apply pollen on-demand to help improve the productivity, profitability and sustainability of modern farming practices. Following multiple seasons of year-round field trials, PowerPollen’s patented pollination technology increased yield by more than 20% in commercial hybrid corn seed production fields. The company has successfully applied its technology across thousands of commercial acres over the past several years. PowerPollen is headquartered in Iowa with additional research operations in Puerto Rico and Texas.

Be sure to check out The Associated Press article today about automation in agriculture! PowerPollen co-founder Jason Cope sat down with Melina Walling to explain how automation technology is helping address many of agriculture's challenges and unlocking opportunities. We were also delighted to host AP photographer to see our technology up close in Iowa.?? ?? Melina writes: "Detasseling corn used to be a rite of passage for some young people in the Midwest. Teenagers would wade through seas of corn removing tassels – the bit that looks like a yellow feather duster at the top of each stalk – to prevent unwanted pollination. Extreme heat, drought and intense rainfall have made this labor-intensive task even harder. And it’s now more often done by migrant farmworkers who sometimes put in 20-hour days to keep up. That’s why Jason Cope, co-founder of farm tech company PowerPollen, thinks it’s essential to mechanize arduous tasks like detasseling. His team created a tool a tractor can use to collect the pollen from male plants without having to remove the tassel. It can then be saved for future crops. “We can account for climate change by timing pollen perfectly as it’s delivered,” he said. “And it takes a lot of that labor that’s hard to come by out of the equation.” w/ Jason Kelsick Jake Klocke Todd Krone Carl Cox #agtech #innovation #farmers #foodsecurity #climatechange #pollination https://lnkd.in/ea3fTR2K

Thanks for inviting us to help represent Iowa AgTech and support trade, innovation and farmers around the world!
I am back in Iowa after having the privilege of participating as a delegate on Governor Kim Reynolds 10-day India Trade Mission, proudly representing Iowa Biotechnology Association (IowaBio) and the Iowa biotechnology sector. Secretary Mike Naig and Iowa Economic Development Authority/Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham also made the journey, along with many strong agriculture and economic development leaders, to open doors and establish new relationships between Iowa and India. I have no doubt these first steps for the State will prove fruitful in the future. Many of our Iowa Biotechnology Association member companies are already active in India, and the potential for even greater growth, connections, and mutual benefits is dazzling, to say the least. With India's rapidly growing population along with environmental/climate factors, come increased demands and stresses on its existing systems and resources. Iowa's values and unique agricultural and biotechnology assets have us poised to provide solutions and help India meet its goals. A perfect example of this was the letter of intent signed by our member PowerPollen while on the trade mission, to provide its innovative pollen technology to the Indian seed market--a momentous occasion. I also served as a witness for the MoU signed by Secretary Mike Naig with TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, which focuses on the development and deployment of sustainable agricultural technologies and practices. I am struck by how many former students from University of Iowa and Iowa State University State I met, who still maintain ties with their alma maters, as well as the continued impact research from those institutions is having in India. Finally, I am thankful to the IowaBio Board of Directors for supporting me in this endeavor, and to Governor Reynolds, Secretary Naig, and Director Durham for their leadership. I also want to thank the other Iowa delegates, for simply being open, fun, and Iowan. The relationships we established among ourselves are no less important. I have a feeling this will not be my last trip to India!
