For some moms, breastfeeding can be difficult or impossible. The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere Inc. brought together families, community members, healthcare workers, and researchers to explore ways to overcome breastfeeding challenges. The results, published in the scientific journal Breastfeeding Medicine, provide important insights into the difficulties many parents face. “In this project, we asked the breastfeeding person themselves what is important to them, what they need in order to be successful," explained pediatrician Ann Kellams, MD, a UVA Health Children's lactation medicine specialist.
