Join me on the most recent Academy Insider podcast to talk about the Information Warfare Community and Navy cyber. When I was a Midshipman majoring in cyber operations, I wanted to continue on to be a Cryptologic Warfare officer because that was my best chance of doing military cyber operations. However, I quickly ended up being a tactical SIGNIT & EW officer for my 6 years in the Navy. But things are quickly adjusting in the landscape of Navy cyber, many thanks to critical voices like VADM Craig Clapperton, Commander of FCC/C10F (sorry for saying you're a part of IFOR in the video). Now the MCWO community will create cyber focused officers, which is much needed! To learn about CW, MCWO, and CWE, check out the podcast. I take the time to walk through each of the IWC designators and provide honest feedback of what you would be doing at a high level. And for any leadership within these communities - I'd love to have you join the Academy Insider podcast to talk about career paths and the direction of these communities! Thank you so much! #navy #cyber #usna

My favorite part of Academy Insider is that it gives me the ability to connect with Naval Academy families across the country. Last Saturday I was officiating a basketball game at The University of Texas Permian Basin out in Odessa, TX. A couple months previous, Jared Blong and Lori Blong had reached out with questions as their daughter is a Plebe at the United States Naval Academy. And they just so happen to live in West Texas. After the game I was able to join Jared and Lori, who is the Mayor of the city of Midland, for dinner and some storytelling about the Naval Academy. And what an absolute treat it was for me. This is the ultimate network and community. Strangers scattered throughout the country become dear friends and family because of this shared background and experience. And I've also had so many grads reaching out recently to touch base, pick my brain, get help on one off situations, and hopefully get a step ahead in their world. And I love every bit of it. If I can be of service to you in any form or fashion, please shoot me a DM. I genuinely love it. #usna #network #community #texas

Fatigue is the Navy’s Black Lung Disease. Fatigue has been shown to have repeatable, tangible, and measurable negative effects on readiness, effectiveness, and safety. That title and thesis have been long utilized by Dr. John P. Cordle, a Naval Academy graduate, two time Ship Captain, and a leading advocate for sleep management in the Navy. As the Dark Ages arrive in Annapolis, Academy Insider will be making a January push to highlight resiliency and talk about the resources that exist for midshipmen. Stress, mishaps, and tragic incidents are often fatigue related, and I am so grateful Dr. Cordle joined the most recent podcast episode to talk about the importance of sleep. We talk about the Navy at large but also place an emphasis on what things are in a midshipman's control to maximize the quality and quantity of their sleep. The best sleep I ever got at the Academy was the 5 minute naps sitting at my desk in Rickover in my Peacoat on cold January days. Yes, I was one of the kids who wore the Reefer ?? And I'm learning that's probably why I didn't do as well as High School Grant thought he'd do. For my midshipmen out there - do your best to build great sleep habits now. It's honestly going to dramatically benefit you in the fleet! #sleep #navy #usna
