In an emergency, staying connected is crucial. Here's a list of communication devices to consider for your emergency kit: - Cell Phone: Keep a charged phone with backup power sources. - Two-Way Radio: Essential for real-time communication when cell service is down. - Weather Radio: Stay informed about severe weather updates. - Satellite Phone: Reliable connectivity in remote areas. - Emergency Whistle: Simple yet effective for signaling help. - Handheld CB Radio: Useful for local communication. - Emergency Beacon: For alerting rescue services to your location. - Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot: Maintain internet access when networks are compromised. In times of emergency, keeping your phone charged can be a lifeline. If a storm is forecasted, charge all your devices beforehand. Consider investing in power banks, solar chargers, or crank-powered chargers. These are reliable options that can offer days of backup charge! Stay safe and #Connected! #NationalPreparednessMonth #EmergencyKit #CommunicationDevices #TeamACDC

We tend to brag about our fantastic team, too, Erica Bornemann! Vermont Emergency Management #ACDConferences #EmergencyManagement #Preparedness
Congrats to Vermont Emergency Management to another successful emergency preparedness conference at the enduring Lake Morey Resort! Little known secret- I planned VEM’s first preparedness conference in 2009 ?? The sessions were insightful- favorite had to be hearing about the 2023 flood recovery efforts in the heart of Montpelier and our state government by Dep Commissioner David DiBiase from BGS. My cup is full after seeing the old family and perhaps bragging about little about my new one AC Disaster Consulting ??

You started the conversation...now, build a kit! Building an emergency preparedness #Kit is one of the most proactive steps to ensuring your family's safety and resilience. Here's a quick checklist of essentials to include: - Water: One gallon per person per day for at least three days. - Food: A three-day supply of non-perishable items. - Radio: Battery-powered or hand crank radio, plus a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert. - Flashlight: Don't forget extra batteries. - First Aid Kit: For any medical emergencies that may arise. - Sanitation Items: Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties. - Tools: Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities, a manual can opener for food. - Local Maps: In case of evacuation or disorientation. Keep in mind - this is a basic list. Tailor your kit to your family's specific needs, including medication, pet supplies, and important documents. September marks a significant time for communities across the nation — it's National Preparedness Month. In 2024, Ready.gov is emphasizing the importance of "Starting a Conversation" to help you and your family to take actions to prepare at your own pace. It's a call to action for every individual to prepare and encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions that might work for them! Each year, #TeamACDC encourages our clients, colleagues, friends, and families to take action and lead in promoting readiness. The goal to ensure that every community is prepared, informed, and ready to face any emergency is one that we can all achieve together! https://bit.ly/3yVBH0V #NationalPreparednessMonth #CommunityResilience #BuildAKit

Today, we are recognizing the anniversary of the day that Hurricane Andrew slammed into South Florida as a CAT 5, causing $27 billion in damages (1992 dollars) in the U.S. alone. Hurricane Andrew, still considered one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit the U.S, is an often-used example of the importance of avoiding complacency, even during seasons that are forecast to have “below-normal” hurricane activity. #TeamACDC’s Allison Diego lived in South Florida when Andrew hit, and shared her experience with us, and the impact that it held for her and her career: “Thirty-two years ago, Hurricane Andrew took my first home. Working for the Miami-Dade Parks Department, I found purpose in helping others while distributing ice and water to survivors. Amidst the devastation, I saw firsthand the resilience of a community and the power of public service. That experience shaped my path, leading me into a career in emergency management, where we strive to make a difference every day. From loss came a deep commitment to service, and it's this commitment that drives us to help others rebuild and recover, no matter the challenges we face.” https://lnkd.in/ev9D4ivF #EmergencyManagement #HurricaneAndrew #Anniversary
