Another small system out the door. I wrapped this up late last night. I didn't realize it was 1am in the morning when I was cleaning up. Although small, this system is for a client in the Security Systems sector and is looking to build multiples of these every year. This is a single non redundant version, but I have built a larger redundant system for them last year and so far they have been very impressed and happy. More of these and other big jobs coming soon. When you are ready for the best electrical design and control panel build and wiring, look no further. The entire design process is thoroughly thought out, every part, wire, and label meticulously leveled and straight, and we do not ship out a single unit until our QAQC process says so. Call us today for your next Automation and Controls Engineering project and Electrical Panel design and Fabrication. Reach out to me today. LABELING.....LABELING.....LABELING I've talked about this topic many times in the past and can't repeat it enough. If you design and build panels, then you should understand this topic. Yet, time and time again I see people post photos of finished products and labels are missing. Why is that? Ok, maybe you took some photos of the panel before labels were applied. Fine, but don't post it and in you description comment something such as "Another Panel Ready to go out the door" or something similar. Let me make it clear. If you are using a design software (AutoCAD or EPLAN for example) then most likely your schematics and panel layouts have labels to ALL parts. And if you work for a company that builds panels as well as design them, or you run a panel shop, then you must have some type of label machine. Handheld, desktop, or any other type. So why are some companies showing photos of "PANELS READY TO SHIP" and yet labels are missing. I get it, all of us use different CAD software, different label machines, and we all have our own unique style of wording and font types when it comes to labels, but if you truly want to deliver a quality panel to your clients, do NOT ship the panel until everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is labeled. ALL WIRES, CABLES, COMPONENTS, TERMINALS, RELAYS, FUSES, ETC. No exceptions. This isn't just good practice for you the panel builder, but it just common sense, and more importantly than your ego, is the benefit this provides the client and the field technician troubleshooting this panel down the road. Below is a photo of a recent build I did, with my standard 3 step process, showing labels (left to right): 1. Schematics/Wiring Diagrams have a label 2. Panel Layout shows the label 3. Physical part has a label *SIDE NOTE: All labels are applied, unless physically impossible, before I run or terminate a single wire. Again, feel free to use the software and the tools that fit you and your company best, or fit your budget best, but please, do not skip 1 step listed above. Trust me, your clients will be grateful at the time and efforts you put into it. And those Electrical Contractors/Field Technicians will love you for it. ??

  • I was going to wait until the end but I thought it would be nice to show more of a weekly progression on this project. So this weekend was completing some enclosure door modifications. This can be a very tedious job, but rewarding if done correctly. Unlike panel wiring, which can be hidden inside wire duct, door Fabrication needs to be spot on, and scratches, dents, and crooked parts will be noticeable. TIP OF THE DAY: This is the first thing your client sees when you show them a finished product. If you take your time and apply high quality here, it already gives them confidence on what is on the inside. If your quality and focus is NOT your top priority for the outside of the panel, chances are, you aren't applying quality on the inside either. Stay tuned for the remaining pieces of this Wastewater Pump System. I'm having a blast with this job and I am confident this client is getting a high quality upgrade to their current system. #automation #autocadelectrical #controlsystems #controlpanels #electricalengineering #electricaldesign #panelbuilding #ABB #automationdirect #puls #phoenixcontact Renegade Solutions, LLC Abison Automation LLC www.abisonautomation.com

Assembled and ready for wires. ?? And yes, there is a certain item missing from the middle. I wonder what it could be? PLC perhaps? Maybe, but what brand? It will be controlling some ABB ACS580 VFDs for some Wastewater Pumps, but is the PLC also ABB? The answers are irrelevant. The client wanted the best solution to fit this particular application. And for most people, especially large Integrators and Engineering firms, they only resort to one solution and it's most likely an expensive solution. So when my friends at Renegade Solutions, LLC came to me for help to design and build a control system for a Wastewater facility, we sat down and thought of many solutions and helped determine what would give the client the best solution without wasting their time and money. And proudly, we did just that. Stay tuned for the final build. SIDE NOTE: Yes, the one photo is the #phoenixcontact PTFIX in blue and white, specially for my white with blue stripe DC Common wires. Once I saw they offered this color, there was no doubt what I would use it for. ?? • Monday Panel Building Tips: Anybody that drills and taps for a living knows the importance of cutting oil or water if your using a water jet or CNC machine. But how often do us Control Panel Builders and Panel Shops use this stuff? Your answer better be, "Every Time". A control panel isn't technically a control panel until the electrical components are mounted/assembled. But this does not happen without one of the most important steps: Drilling and Tapping Holes. And for those of us who are drilling and tapping on almost a daily basis, we know how important it is to preserve our Drills and Taps. So please, if you don't have this already, go pick up a bottle of this stuff, or whatever brand you choose, today. This will help your bits last longer, and, it makes tapping holes easier. Otherwise, no oil means more friction, which leads to metal heating up, warping, or as you may know, drills and taps breaking. Make your job easier, and your process running smoother, by using cutting oil for when you drilling out your panels. It is a very important, and sometimes overlooked part of the build. BONUS PANEL BUILDING TIP: If you are someone who draws lines with pencils directly on the panels and enclosures, this cutting oil helps removes those lines instantly, better then any other cleaning supply. See my photos below where a small bit of oil erases the pencil lines immediately. I randomly found this out years and years ago by accident, but it became a happy accident and ever since then I've kept a bottle of this around in my garage just in case. ?? BONUS, BONUS PANEL BUILDING TIP: STOP DRAWING LINES DIRECLTY ON PANELS AND ENCLOSURES. It looks horrible, and most people don't take time to erase the lines. ?? www.abisonautomation.com #automation #controlsystems #panelbuilding #manufacturing

  • If your a company who has panels that look like these photos, fire the panel shop or engineering company that built them. These photos show the complete lack of quality that is out there, that some people think is acceptable. It never is. Your company deserves better and you deserve to have your control panels built by a company that truly takes pride in their work and won't build it quick to rush it out the door. Contact us today so we can show you what quality and care should look like when it comes to your next Automation and Controls project. www.abisonautomation.com

Happy Tuesday Everyone. It's finally sunny and in the 70s today here in Pennsylvania, which makes me happy. Panel Design and Fabrication is my favorite thing on the planet, and I love showing a lot of Dos and Don'ts when it comes to panel building, as well as some helpful tips and tricks. Today's lessons focus on DON'TS. Lately, I've been helping out a Process Control Plant with some Panel Designs and upgrades to current panels that are already installed. Below are 5 pictures of something we should NEVER see in Panel building and what to do to improve. NOTE: The pictures below are of existing panels. I did not design or build these, only using them as examples of what NOT to do. Tip 1 (Photo 1): This panel as multiple IO racks. On the left the wire numbers go 1 direction, on the right they go the opposite direction. When building and wiring panels, choose one way and stick with it. Every panel, every time. Consistency is key to quality. Tip 2 (Photo 2): Although this panel shop used wire ties, they failed to use some type of wire wrap around the door hinge. Whether you like spiral wrap, braided wrap, or another type, always protect your wires around the door hinges. It takes 2 minutes and adds value and quality to the build. No excuses should be made to not use it. Tip 3 (Photo 3): This shows the lack of wire ties, tie down clips, or any material to neatly route the wires and make it look clean. Again, this can be solved by taking 2 minutes to route them a cleanly with some wire ties, but was probably avoided here to rush the job and get it done. I don't care what your timeline is. Don't rush, do it properly, even it takes a few extra moments. Tip 4 (Photo 4): This is lack of common sense and care for a panel layout, and shows the mentality of people that think this is quality work. Don't EVER EVER EVER put several pieces of DIN Rail together just to extend it. I know what happened here. They needed 48" of din rail, and a 1 Meter Rail is not long enough, so they added on a smaller 10 or 12" piece. PLEASE DONT DO THIS. Buy some 2 Meter DIN Rail and problem solved. These aren't even the same style of Rail, so it looks even worse. Tip 5 (Photo 5): The best, yet, worst for last. Without having to look too hard, I immediately saw how someone drilled holes, and the metal shavings got all over the panel. So, instead of cleaning it up, or vacuuming it out, they left it this way. This is ignorance and stupidity at the highest level. No client should ever except this type of work, and this panel shop, or Contractor, should be fired and never allowed to build panels again. These metal pieces in a panel is Electronics worst nightmare. Shame on you. CONCLUSION: Take pride in your work. Every Photo above could have been solved easily in 2 minutes, but was ignored. And there are Panel Shops and Engineering companies out there that think this is acceptable. It's not. Quality can not be rushed.
