SPOOKTACULAR progress! ??? Violet and Vlad made magic happen during intensive therapy session by painting pumpkins AND building important skills along the way! Both were working on sitting balance while wearing the TheraSuit, which provides them with proprioceptive input to remind them how to properly align their bodies into midline. When their bodies are in a more neutral position, their brains are better equipped to learn new functional movement patterns like maintaining their balance while seated. Violet focused on hand-eye coordination and stabilizing her posture while engaging in an activity. Typically, she struggles to maintain postural control while reaching, but here she showed wonderful improvement! Vlad took things further by working on coordination, propped sitting, and ATNR integration. Using arm immobilizers, his practiced isolating neck movements without going into ATNR pattern which causes the arms to move whenever the head turns. With the immobilizers, Vlad could focus on neck control without his arms getting in the way. Both kiddos brought their unique style to the task, and their pumpkins turned out beautifully! Our physical therapists are always thinking up new ways to keep sessions interesting and engaging! Our kiddos just think they’re playing a board game, but there’s so much more going on here! Starting with balancing, both girls practiced this skill by standing on a balancing board or a bosu ball. When they were ready to take it up a notch, they went on to scooting. After each of their turns, they had to take a lap to the end of the gym and back. Scooter boards are fantastic for dorsiflexion, bilateral coordination, core strengthening, and gross motor skills. All this wrapped in a simple game of Trouble! ??
