?? Can AI help me become a better manager? ?? As an instructional facilitator with Abilitie, I lead programs that integrate game-based simulations and AI to support corporate learning. Trying this new way to guide learning has given me a second wind in my facilitation career. After facilitating my first AI-driven case study session last month as part of The 12-Week MBA program, I witnessed an unexpected energy in our virtual meeting room. A group of seasoned L&D professionals at a leading global entertainment company��people well-acquainted with traditional role play��found themselves genuinely excited at this new way to grow, learn, and practice. They were�� giddy. Unlike typical role plays, where scenarios are limited to what we each bring to the table, the AI in these case studies offers a realistic counterpart who then gives immediate, tailored feedback and the chance to try again, differently, without judgment. It allows learners to go beyond rehearsed responses and awkward exchanges and truly experience their growth. I sent the learners in the program in pairs to Zoom breakout rooms to interact with an AI employee, a tenured employee in a fictional company with a recent decline in performance. Each pair needed to provide feedback to the employee and decide if they would approve his request to travel to a conference. When we reconvened, the excitement was contagious, and I had 5+ people with virtual hands raised, eager to share insights in our discussion. My screen was full of engaged, smiling faces, excited to reflect on their experiences with our virtual employee. As a facilitator, this is what I call the "sweet spot." Here��s what I notice makes this AI-driven approach so impactful for learners: ? Safe Practice: Learners can engage deeply without the pressure of real-world consequences. ? Skill Application: They apply new approaches immediately, reinforcing the learning. ? Instant AI Feedback: Right after each interaction, AI provides analysis that helps them see where they excelled and where to adjust. ? Multiple Reps: Unlike one-and-done scenarios, learners have the freedom to experiment and improve. ? Guided Reflection: Our post-session discussions tease out what each person learned, helping them connect the dots for lasting insights. At one point, I invited participants to ��do it badly�� and really push their limits��burn the bridge if they wanted! Watching them light up as they took creative risks underscored how freeing this AI-powered approach is. I��d love to hear how other leaders in L&D are using AI to enhance learning or any surprises they��ve had along the way. What are your thoughts?
