We are so excited to launch Career Coaching — available to high schoolers, college students, and adults. College admissions are not the end goal. Providing high schoolers with a chance to learn about and explore career possibilities will help them as they consider how to best use their college experience. College students share with me that they feel adrift in terms of identifying majors, classes, and internships. Having built a powerful story in high school, they know they need to do it again, but aren’t sure where to start. After an extensive search, we are thrilled to introduce Brian Frenette and Julia Bourque. Over the past 17 years, Brian has coached undergraduates, professional students, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows/scholars across 80 disciplines and three institutions — Yale University, Wesleyan University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Brian has also worked directly with employers recruiting students in technology, media & entertainment, management consulting, finance, education, and the nonprofit sector. Julia has worked in career services for ten years at an Ivy League institution, supporting undergraduate and graduate students in their job and internship search through hundreds of one-on-one coaching appointments, and by creating and providing educational programs and experiential learning opportunities. She exercises empathy, trust, and agility in building rapport with her students to give them the tools and confidence to explore career paths and take action steps in the job/internship search. Julia has been trained in design thinking through Stanford’s Life Design Studio which she incorporates into workshops and individualized appointments. COLLEGE APPLICATION ADVISOR: Spanish, English, History tutor Marcia Custer graduated summa cum laude from Kent State University, where she studied Art History, Spanish, and Dance. After earning a post-bacc in performance at Bryn Mawr, she worked as a theatrical creative producer, cultivating and presenting people’s stories.
