In Connecticut, the only way to access the financial records (SFIs) of public officials is through a formal request process. ?? Here’s the Problem: In Connecticut, if you want to know where your public officials get their money or what businesses they’re involved in (so you can see if they’re being fair when making decisions), it’s not easy to find out! Unlike many other states where you can see this info online in just a few clicks, Connecticut makes you submit a formal request — which takes time and effort. For vulnerable populations this process becomes even more difficult. ? This makes it harder for people to check if officials are doing their jobs fairly without being influenced by their own money or interests. ?? What Other States Do Right: In places like New York, Florida, and California, public financial info about politicians is available online for anyone to see—no requests, no waiting, no hassles. The solution: ?? We should have the same easy access here in Connecticut! Increased Transparency: Unrestricted access ensures the public can easily see where officials have financial interests, building trust between the government and its citizens. Improved Public Trust: When citizens can easily view financial information, it increases confidence that elected officials are acting ethically and responsibly, fostering greater trust in the government.
