I am pleased to announce that I have joined Abel Police as a Law Enforcement/Solutions Consultant. I am proud to have joined a team that is helping bring enhanced technology at a reasonable price to law enforcement agencies and focusing on solutions to help free Officers from timely duties in order to get them back on the streets so they can best interact with and serve the community. Throughout the United States, law enforcement agencies staffing levels are down, calls for service are increasing, and organizations and their people are being stretched in numerous directions with limited resources. Through advanced technology, Abel Police can provide law enforcement agencies with a means of greatly reducing one of a Police Officers most timely duties, report writing. Anyone who has ever worked in law enforcement can tell you that for a 30 minutes police incident, such as a DUI arrest, there could be up to 4 hours of report writing. This amount of time greatly increases as the severity and complexity of the incident increases. This timely and important duty removes an Officer or multiple Officers from the street and reduces the department’s ability to respond to incidents in a timely fashion with sufficient personnel. Using advanced video interpretation and transcription and compatible to numerous records/report management systems, Abel Police has developed a solution that prepares police reports from an Officer’s body worn camera footage. The report generated is a detailed draft for an Officer to review and amend if needed. While technology is used to prepare the draft report, a human still has final say in the contents of the report and is still responsible to ensure that it captures all the correct and legal information necessary to properly document the incident. By using this advanced technology to assist Officers in preparing reports, the time to prepare reports would go from hours to minutes and the report would lose no detail, completeness, or essential information. Therefore returning the Officer to streets quicker so they can focus on protecting and serving their community. AI Trend Alert! I like to watch the companies that are participating in leading accelerator programs as a way to identify and validate trends and themes. Looking at the companies that presented yesterday at Y Combinator's Demo Day some AI themes are clear: 1. AI Robots are going to be a really bigger thing that I initially thought. AI is improving the ability for robots to mimic human actions. When this happens (not if) the implication is that robots will be able to surpass humans in some tasks/jobs. Low churn labor that doesn't require people management who can do the job better than humans are in our future. For example, yondu is making robots that are designed to pick, stock, and face shelves in grocery stores. 2. Software acting like humans will enable software to complete entire tasks without human supervision. A couple of interesting examples: Lighthouz AI (YC S24) integrates with legacy procurement software to pull data from receipts and purchase orders to make recommendations for humans to review. One day the human review will not be needed and we will have fully autonomous procurement agents... CardLift enables credit card issuers a way to make their cards the default on ecommerce websites. 3. Domain-specific AI companies will be the really big winners. General AI is great but deep domain expertise will be the key to actually doing the real work. A couple of examples I liked from the Y Combinator cohort: Merlin AI (YC S24) has AI software to run construction businesses. In creating their software, they co-located with a construction business as they developed and refined their software. Abel Police is automating police paperwork by taking police body camera footage and turning it into completed police reports.
