ABC of the Carolinas is a family of contractors, suppliers, and industry professionals seeking to promote and improve the image of construction and address the many issues facing the industry. The Carolinas Chapter together with 23,500 member firms nationally promote equality amongst construction managers, general contractors, specialty contractors, suppliers, and industry professionals. With one voice our members seek to improve the construction industry as a whole. Associated Builders & Contractors was founded in Baltimore, MD in 1950 to promote the "merit shop" and the free market system as it relates to the construction industry. Additionally, ABC promotes the "fairness factor", by which all members are seen as being equal. All businesses, from general contractors to suppliers, and sub-contractors to industry professionals, have a voice and vote. This is something that is not found in any other construction association. ABC chartered the Carolinas chapter in 1998.

The 1st Annual Greater Charlotte Build a SHED competition was a huge success! Last Friday, four local high schools battled it out in a 7-hour hands-on competition to build a 6x6x8 playhouse. Judged on quality, safety, and completion, the students showcased their hard work and skills honed over months of mentorship from industry pros. Congrats again to the runner-up, Palisades High School, and winner, The ROC Charlotte! Excitement was in the air as students participated in the first-ever Build-A-Shed competition in Charlotte on Nov. 15, 2024, thanks to Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC Carolinas Chapter). This incredible workforce development opportunity brought Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students together with general and specialty trade contractors to construct a 6’ x 8’-6” playhouse in just seven hours! The competition introduced students to construction careers through real-world learning, emphasizing safety, planning, and teamwork. Teams from Independence High School,?Palisades High School, and?The ROC Charlotte?competed fiercely, with The ROC taking home the win. Thank you to all who supported these future builders as they explored hands-on experiences and built toward bright careers in construction!

At the 2024 Excellence in Construction Awards gala last Thursday, ABC Carolinas Chapter recognized 50 members with awards. This year, ABC Carolinas honored 24 Eagle Awards, 16 Merit Awards, and 10 Honorable Mention Awards. The awards acknowledge the contributions of all construction team members involved in each project, such as the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer.
