We are The Good Doctors of Abbey Research. We are corporate trainers that focus on employee engagement and retention with approaches and insights that get to the root of discontent, poor morale, and miscommunication, the key factors in employee turnover. The average corporate training model only addresses the symptoms of the problems you’re facing - interpersonal conflict, high turnover, disengaged employees - and not the root causes, which is why they don’t work. Our training model provides the tools for a multipronged root cause analysis of your culture because we know the solution to all your ‘people’ problems is to create a workplace culture of understanding, support, and productive communication. We are both educators with social science PhDs. We have lived and studied around the United States and around the world, exposing us to a beautiful range of identities, experiences, and worldviews. As a company, we’ve been around since 2016, but we’ve been unofficial advocates for understanding our whole adult lives. We have a history of being obnoxiously curious - which means we have always been interested in how and why people do what they do. It's been 1 month since we spent a great few days in Hillsboro, Oregon for the City of Hillsboro's Hillsboro U annual event! Over the course of two days we delivered an opening keynote, a 90 minute workshop, and a 90 minute executive leadership session. We enjoyed learning from and with our clients at the City of Hillsboro and helping them all better understand the origins of #burnoutculture and how to mitigate #burnout in their own lives! In our work, we find that older generations (Boomers, Gen X, and even Millennials) are quick to criticize Gen Z (and younger) for their lack of attention spans and inability to focus. Smart phones and social media apps are usually to blame for these deficiencies too, so we decided to do some more research. Our most recent White Paper looks at the impact of short form video platforms, like TikTok, and their impact on attention spans, procrastination, and even social media addiction. The rapid pace of changing technology in the 21st century has contributed to a large gap in adolescent experiences and skill development. We've long been fascinated by the use and impact of parental monitoring apps and location sharing services on adolescent feelings of independence and autonomy. Our student researchers recently conducted a survey looking at this very idea and their results are fascinating. Not only did we learn about changing ideas of what it means to be independent, but we also did further research into how these applications and technologies are impacting skill development in young people. We know that each new generation that enters the workplace has different perspectives on many workplace values. But what happens when a generation enters the workforce during a global pandemic? We're seeing different data from Gen Z workers when it comes to their preferred work model, in large part due to their exposure to online or remote learning during COVID-19.
