Last Wednesday, the Asian Business Association of SDSU invited Isa Grimes back for a Q&A-style guest speaker event! With his wealth of experience and passion for helping students, our members gained insightful answers to questions about personal branding, standing out in a competitive job market, essential soft skills, and even an overview of the stock market! I was so happy to see our first and second-year members getting a taste of what a typical digital marketing class with Professor Grimes is like. ?? Personally, my connection with Professor Grimes started back in March during his first guest speech with ABA. Funnily enough, we actually first met a few weeks before that when he stopped by my Consumer Behavior class and spotted me with a 49ers hat in the front row. One key lesson he taught me and my class throughout this semester was that many opportunities in business come down to timing, luck, and knowing the right people. ?? Had he not walked into that Consumer Behavior class, if nobody from ABA had him in their network, I might never have enrolled in his course and would not have gained the passion and knowledge about digital marketing that I now have. I hope our members can create similar meaningful connections with the guest speakers we bring in as they grow their networks and advance in their careers! ?? Another huge thank you to Professor Isa Grimes for always being there to support ABA SDSU and students like myself!

  • Last week, ABA SDSU hosted our second ever Mentor-Mentee Program where members were thoughtfully paired to foster meaningful connections — both academically and socially. ?? The goal? To provide an opportunity for growth, guidance, and collaboration. Through this program, our members can learn from each other, share experiences, and build relationships that last far beyond the classroom. ???? It’s incredible to see how these Mentor-Mentee bonds are already creating a supportive, empowering environment within the club. From academic advice to personal development, the potential for growth is limitless when we work together! A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this initiative a success! ?? We look forward to seeing all the amazing progress and achievements that will come from these new connections.

Shark Tank Game Night at Asian Business Association of SDSU! Last week, our club hosted a Shark Tank-inspired game night, and it was an incredible success! ???? Teams were given a fictional company and a broad description, then had 15 minutes to analyze it and develop a pitch. After that, each group had 10 minutes to craft their pitch, followed by a 3-minute presentation to our panel of 5 sharks (including myself! ??). The teams delivered outstanding pitches, showing incredible creativity, quick thinking, and strategic analysis in such a short time frame. After each pitch, the sharks posed tough questions to assess the feasibility and potential of the businesses — pushing the teams to think on their feet and refine their ideas in real-time. Some key takeaways from the event: ?? Critical Thinking: Teams had to quickly evaluate a business and identify opportunities and challenges. This skill is valuable in any career where decision-making and strategic thinking are key. ?? Communication: Presenting a pitch to a panel of “sharks” helped participants refine their ability to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively—something essential in every professional setting. ?? Teamwork & Collaboration: The success of each team was rooted in their ability to collaborate effectively, highlighting the importance of working together to achieve common goals. ?? Adaptability: The Q&A session forced teams to think on their feet, pivot their strategies, and defend their ideas in real-time—a critical skill in fast-paced, ever-changing environments. ?? Presentation Skills: Whether pitching an idea to investors or presenting a project to a team, presenting ideas confidently and concisely is a vital skill in any career. This event wasn’t just a fun night; it was an incredible growth opportunity for all participants to stretch their skills in areas that are directly applicable to their future careers. A huge thank you to our board members for serving as sharks and providing invaluable feedback. And of course, a big shoutout to the teams for their dedication and impressive pitches! ?? We’re already excited for the next event!
