Edward Timken (Mediator, Timken Dispute Resolution, LLC. ), Member of the Steering Committee ?| ???????? ???? ???????? ???????? ???????????? ?????? ??????????????????? I am a member of the steering committee. I would like to be more active. I am a pensioner and retiree of 30 years tenure with the NYS Government, so flying all over the world to meetings is financially prohibitive. I would like to travel to some of the meetings in the future if possible. I enjoy writing and editing, speaking and setting up panels, and helping the committee in any way that I can. ?| ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ??????, ?????? ???????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???????????????? ???? ?????????? ?? ????????????? I joined the ABA a few years ago after being a member of other local groups, anxious to meet more of the biggest and brightest that the profession has to offer, who are members of the ABA from around the world. And I wasn’t disappointed with the scope and breadth of what it had to offer in networking opportunities within some of its committees. I have always been interested in international dispute resolution, which is why, at age 62, I decided to take an LLM in international dispute resolution at Fordham University School of Law in New York. I felt that it was unlikely that a mere New Yorker and government lawyer from Queens, New York could ever practice in this lofty specialization, but I applied what I had learned at Fordham and earned the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) by passing the award-writing module. Since then I have been enjoying the stimulating speakers and educational opportunities that the committee has become famous for providing. It offers a lot of professional networking and opportunity for those who fit the profile of the international dispute resolver. #internationalarbitration #internationalarbitrationcommittee #ABA

I’m privileged to serve as a Senior Advisor to the International Arbitration Committee—an experience that has been nothing short of extraordinary. I originally joined the ABA for the same reason a curious mind travels to distant lands—seeking knowledge, connections, and inspiration. Not only have I forged friendships with some of the brightest and most innovative arbitration professionals around the globe, but I’ve also discovered an unparalleled resource for work referrals and mentorship. Our monthly meetings are like a masterclass in cutting-edge developments: we debate emerging legal trends, champion the rule of law, and return to our practices invigorated by new ideas. And, truth be told, the personal and professional doors opened for me through ABA’s International Law Section would make even the most seasoned networker green with envy. If you’re passionate about being on the front lines of international dispute resolution, there is no better place to land than the ABA’s International Arbitration Committee. It’s a community that celebrates intellectual rigor while also embracing camaraderie—proving that serious legal work and warm human connection are not mutually exclusive. On this International Women's Day, we honor the remarkable contributions of women globally. ?? In arbitration, women have made significant strides, but more remains to be done. The progress owes much to initiatives like the ArbitralWomen and the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge, and the dedicated efforts of institutions and individuals. However, challenges such as unconscious bias and information barriers persist and need to be addressed. ?? Let's continue to advocate for equity, inclusion, and true gender equality—ensuring every voice is heard and valued. ?? #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #ABA
