Joe Douglas with more than 120 TIA members participated in the Annual TIA Policy Forum in Washington D.C. The TIA members participated in 200+ meetings with their members of Congress and their staff on Sept. 16-17. TIA members also had the opportunity to speak with Rep. David Rouzer (R-7th/N.C.); FMCSA Chief Counsel Melody Drummond Hansen; Federal Maritime Commissioner Carl W. Bentzel; and Rep. Mike Ezell (R-4th/Miss.). Ezell, along with Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), co-wrote H.R. 8505 - Household Goods Shipping Consumer Protection Act - which aims to help the industry fight fraud. The bill passed out of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee on Sept. 18 and will now be sent to the House floor for consideration. This was Joe Douglas’s first time attending the Forum, he is looking forward to participating in next years policy forum.
