Established in 1975, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is the premier professional society representing the sleep medicine specialty. As the leading voice in the sleep field, the AASM sets standards and promotes excellence in sleep medicine health care, education, and research. The AASM has a combined membership of 11,000 accredited member sleep centers and individual members, including physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals. The AASM offers talent opportunities in the fields of accreditation, administration, accounting, communications, design, education, event planning, social media, health policy, human resources, information technology, marketing, membership, clinical guidelines & research, and more. The AASM understands that when it comes to finding the right work home, it’s all about the entire package and work/life balance. We pride ourselves in offering competitive pay and premium healthcare options for full-time staff. Aside from the standard benefits i.e. medical, dental, disability, life, accident, paid parental leave, PTO and float holidays, we also offer flexible schedules, hybrid work, professional development assistance, pet insurance, identity theft protection, and an industry-leading 401(k) retirement program with 10% employer contributions. We’re also committed to the health and well-being of our valuable staff. That’s why we celebrate wellness every week through our Wellness Wednesday initiatives with walk breaks, snacks, and stretch breaks. We also find ways to connect with each other in the remote space through seasonal virtual events. Shift workers are vital to our communities, but their irregular schedules can lead to significant health risks, particularly from chronic sleep deprivation. To reduce these risks: ??Request a clockwise (day → evening → night) rotation and limit night shifts to 3 consecutive days. ??Encourage getting 7-8 hours of sleep as a baseline and use a sleep diary for tracking. ??Protect sleep time by blocking noise, darkening the room, and reducing disruptions like electronics. ??Get regular exercise, and moderate caffeine/alcohol consumption. ??Structured naps can improve alertness—use them pre-shift or during periods of sleepiness ??For more complex cases, refer to a sleep specialist who can suggest circadian therapies like bright light exposure, melatonin, or modafinil for alertness.

?? Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH) often begins in adolescence and can last a lifetime, though some cases do go into remission. Think you might have IH? Take this quick self-test: ? Do you feel very sleepy even after 8-10 hours of uninterrupted sleep? ? Has this been happening daily for over three months? ? Are you still feeling sleepy after naps, even with a full night's rest, and find those naps unrefreshing? If you answered "yes" to all these questions, it could be IH. Remember, only a sleep doctor can provide a proper diagnosis. ?? If you suspect IH, reach out to a specialist today! Find a healthcare center here: https://hubs.la/Q02PRy_Z0
