"Protecting Nebraskans and emergency responders requires everyone—especially drivers—to slow down, move over, and respect those serving as first responders," said NDOT Director Vicki K.. "At NDOT, we are committed to uniting responders across the state to improve incident response, share best practices, and conduct essential training through Nebraska’s five regional Traffic Incident Management working groups. But we also need the public to step up and give responders the space they need to work safely on the road." On Monday, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) held a ceremony to honor emergency responders as part of Crash Responder Safety Week. Earlier this month, Governor Pillen signed a proclamation declaring National Crash Responder Safety Week, emphasizing the essential role crash responders play in swiftly managing and clearing traffic incidents. In September, NDOT and its partners also recognized first responders from Banner, Cheyenne, Deuel, Kimball, and Scotts Bluff Counties, who demonstrated their commitment to safety by signing a memorandum of understanding.

It's Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW)! I joined the Transportation Incident Management Executive Leadership Group at the U.S. Department of Transportation where we committed to improve safety across all roadways and protect crash responders. Highlights included innovations in emergency response lighting, a deep dive into roadway clearance laws, and a discussion about TIM training practices. Thank you Federal Highway Administration for convening such a great group of TIM leaders!
