Today in Transportation History, 2022: A New Line is Added to a Norwegian Light Rail System. On Norway’s west coast, the second line of a light rail system in the city and municipality of Bergen first went into service. This took place three days after the inaugural ceremony for this new route was held. The second line encompasses 5.6 miles (nine kilometers) between Kaigaten in Bergen’s borough of Bergenhus and the borough of Fyllingsdalen. Bergen Light Rail’s first line had been opened in 2010, with subsequent extensions officially introduced in both 2013 and 2017. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Z3y95o #Transportation #History

Today in Transportation History, 1854: The Inauguration of One of the First Bridges Built in Venice. One of the first bridges to be built in the Italian city of Venice was opened to the public. Today in Transportation History, 2022: The Opening of a Light Rail Station in San Francisco’s South of Market Neighborhood. Yerba Buena/Moscone station in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood was officially opened. This underground light rail station, which is a link in the T Third Street line of the San Francisco Municipal Railway’s Muni Metro system, owes its name to both Yerba Buena/Moscone Gardens and Moscone Convention Center in that section of the city. Yerba Buena/Moscone station – specifically located at 4th and Folsom Streets –was one of the stations built as an extension of the T Third Street line between San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood and SoMa.
