What we do might surprise you! AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social mission organization with a membership of nearly 38 million. Our aim is to disrupt outdated stereotypes about aging, turn goals and dreams into real possibilities, and fight for the issues that matter most to people 50-plus, their families and communities. Our social impact work in health security, financial resilience, and personal fulfillment is at the heart of what we do. With offices in every state plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, we live and work in the communities we serve. We listen to what people need and want, and offer programs, services and trusted information that are directly relevant to them. State offices also work with our national office to amplify our members’ voices at the local and federal levels to help empower people 50 and above to choose how they live and work as they age. From being a force for positive change to producing the nation’s largest-circulation magazine – the full scope of what we do might surprise you! That’s why people who are excited by unique opportunities and galvanized by meaningful challenges come to work at AARP.

Family caregivers need help. According to AARP research, 8 in 10 caregivers help cover routine expenses for their loved one, spending an average of $7,200 a year out of pocket – making it harder to afford groceries or pay bills. Many spend their personal savings, tap into retirement savings or cut down on their own health care. That is one of the many reasons AARP applauds the reintroduction of the Credit for Caring Act, legislation that could ease that challenge with a tax credit that puts money back in the pocket of hardworking family caregivers. ? I recently had the opportunity to speak with one of our members, Ana Tris, who is caring for her 91-year-old mother, who has dementia. She shared what a tax credit for caregivers would mean for her and her family. I’m grateful to Ana for sharing her story with us, and proud of the work our dedicated team at AARP is doing to fight for greater support for millions more caregivers just like her. ? We are giving Congress 100+ reasons to prioritize a tax credit for family caregivers. Share your reason:?aarp.org/100reasons. ? #FamilyCaregiving #Caregiving #CreditforCaringAct #Advocacy

Despite being the largest minority group in America, Hispanic Americans face significant challenges in retirement saving. Studies reveal that older Hispanic workers are the least likely to participate in retirement plans. To supplement their income later in life, they’re remaining in the workforce for longer. Although this creates new opportunities for companies to invest in experienced workers, it also opens the door for age discrimination in hiring and in the workplace. What steps can you take to address age discrimination? ??Talk with a supervisor: The conversation doesn’t have to be formal, but make your concerns heard. ??Keep a log: Keep discriminatory emails or track actions that should be addressed. ???Lodge a complaint with the company: If conversations haven’t worked, go through the formal complaint process. What steps have you taken to push back on age bias at work?

“I’m working harder than I ever worked before in my life. I’m making less money than I ever made before. But the flip side of that coin, I am enjoying this more than I’ve ever enjoyed any other job.” For 20 years, Bobby Wilson worked for the University of Georgia developing more than 350 community gardens throughout the Atlanta metro area. When he retired in 2009, he invested his retirement savings into five acres of land where he now runs a farm with the help of a few employees and local volunteers, providing fresh produce and education to his community in Atlanta. Watch his inspiring story.
