Board member Alex Krouse shares some valuable insights into the specialties currently facing the biggest challenges in recruitment. What are your thoughts on these findings?
And the most competitive specialty to recruit right now is . . . . The American Association of Provider Compensation Professionals (AAPCP) is finalizing the 2025 Most Difficult to Recruit Physician Specialties, and I was not entirely shocked to see gastroenterology at the top of the list. Here’s why gastroenterology is in a perfect storm: ?? Trainees (2023-2024): Only 2,000 individuals are currently in training programs. ?? Recruitment Difficulty Score: 25, making it the most challenging specialty to recruit. ?? Private Equity Acquisitions: Nearly 800 gastroenterology practices have been acquired by PE firms in the past decade. ?? Combine limited supply, high demand, and private equity consolidation, and you get a specialty that is increasingly difficult for health systems and medical groups to recruit. But gastroenterology isn’t the only specialty feeling the strain. Other specialties rounding out the top 7 (from AAPCP’s survey of 80+ health systems/medical groups employing 80,000+ physicians) are also facing significant recruitment challenges. Don’t let the graphic deceive you—each of these specialties is proving very difficult to recruit right now. #physicianrecruitment #healthcarestaffing #gastroenterology #AAPCP #workforcedevelopment #healthcarestrategy
