How closely are your recruitment and provider compensation teams working together? In a recent American Association of Provider Compensation Professionals survey of nearly 90 healthcare organizations with dedicated provider compensation departments, we found a striking trend: ? 70% health systems have folded traditional recruitment functions—like offer management, letter of intent development, market analysis for determining offers, and strategic input on staffing/hiring—into the provider compensation and workforce strategy department. ?? Approximately 15% of organizations now have the entire recruitment team reporting through the provider compensation and workforce strategy department. Since our last survey, these numbers have nearly doubled. Healthcare organizations are continuing to evolve how recruitment, retention, and compensation align—seeking tighter integration, greater efficiency, and more strategic workforce planning. The AAPCP continues to lead the nation in research and data on how organizations manage these functions. With nearly 20 years of experience in physician compensation, Douglas plays a key role in developing strategy, plan design, and administration for over 1,500 physicians across the health system. Biggest Challenge in Provider Compensation? “It’s a perfect storm—reduced reimbursement, rising financial pressures on health systems, and an aging population requiring more healthcare resources. With physician shortages growing, we must ensure our compensation models are competitive, strategic, and aligned with the right incentives to retain and attract top talent.” How has AAPCP Benefited You? “AAPCP has been instrumental in bringing our industry out of the shadows. Just a few years ago, provider compensation roles were scattered across HR, Finance, or Legal. Now, health systems recognize the need for dedicated teams defining physician recruitment, retention, compliance, and revenue strategy.
