AAMI concludes the Spring 2025 Sterilization Standards Week by celebrating a significant recognition. Amanda Benedict, AAMI’s Vice President of Sterilization, has been named a Fellow of the Society for Standardization Professionals (SES)—a distinction that reflects more than a decade of leadership and service in the field. Amanda’s work has been central to advancing standards for sterilization, sterility assurance, and sterile processing. Her involvement with SES spans over a decade, including roles on the Board of Directors and the Certification Committee. While she’ll accept the award virtually at the SES Annual Conference, her presence was strongly felt throughout this week’s AAMI meetings. This recognition reinforces AAMI’s leadership role in developing standards that protect patient safety and support the healthcare field. The week also featured powerful conversations with industry experts. Jami McLaren of Boston Scientific discussed the award-winning work of AAMI Working Group 96 and how efforts like TIR17 are shaping the future of material compatibility. Alpa Patel (Nelson Laboratories) and Horlando Cintron (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) explored recent revisions to ST58 and upcoming guidance such as TIR121. Martell Winters (Nelson Labs) shared updates on bioburden testing resources. Terra Kremer (Johnson & Johnson) joined us to record a new episode of Below the Hospital, AAMI’s latest podcast for sterile processing professionals.
