As we continue our celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we once again celebrate Mallory Yung, MPH, PMP, Associate Director for the Health Equity Alliance at the Health Management Academy, and AAMC CHARGE Virtual Community Ambassador. Mallory’s passion for health equity stems from both her academic background in sociology and public health and her personal experiences as a first-generation child of immigrants. Growing up, she witnessed firsthand the challenges her non-English-speaking relatives faced in accessing health care, which fueled her commitment to breaking down systemic barriers. Her work has already made an impact. In a previous role, she led a citywide evaluation of Nashville’s COVID-19 response, identifying how certain policy decisions exacerbated disparities and helping shape structural changes to ensure more equitable outcomes in future public health emergencies. Now, she is focused on advancing policy and systemic solutions and exploring how health care organizations can demonstrate the business case for health equity—a critical perspective in driving long-term change. As we celebrate women leading the charge in health equity, we invite you to connect with leaders like Mallory in the AAMC CHARGE virtual community. In honor of Women's History Month, meet Gelise L. Thomas, JD, MS, a passionate advocate for health equity and the Director of Research Health Equity at the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio at Case Western Reserve University. Gelise is also a member of the AAMC Collaborative for Health equity: Act, Research, Generate Evidence (CHARGE), a forum for investigators, clinicians and community partners who design and implement research and policies that eliminate health and health care inequities. For Gelise, health equity is about collective progress: “When we all thrive, we all thrive.” She believes now is the time to reimagine systems, invest in sustainable infrastructure, and ensure communities directly affected by health injustices have a voice in shaping solutions. One of her proudest projects, the Black Maternal Health Equity Summit, brought together 450+ participants, 37 national collaborators and 25 sponsors to support Black-led organizations working to improve maternal health. This initiative paves the way for new research, policy discussions and funding opportunities. Learn more about Gelise: https://ow.ly/g6vJ50VeorX #WomensHistoryMonth #CHARGESpotlight #HealthEquity
