There are significant health care disparities between rural and urban/suburban America. This means that for many living in rural areas, routine checkups are skipped, chronic conditions go unmanaged, and emergency situations can turn tragic due to delayed care. This reality often serves as a catalyst for rural students, driven by a desire to serve their communities, to pursue medical careers. While 20% of Americans live in rural settings, only a small percentage of medical students (less than 5%) come from these areas —and only 11% of physicians practice there. However, those who do come from rural areas are significantly more likely to return and serve their home communities. A recent AAMC News feature highlights the stories of seven graduating medical students, all with rural roots, who shared how their personal experiences have shaped their journey to The Match?. https://ow.ly/833250Vl0jz #Match2025 #MatchDay #MedicalEducation
