Today, for Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating Yolanda Black Navarro–a proud Houstonian, activist, philanthropist, and one of AAMA’s founding board members. ?? She dedicated her life to uplifting Houston’s East End, creating opportunities for those who needed them most. Back in 1970, she and a group of local leaders came together with a vision–and that’s how AAMA was born. Because of their dedication, we’re still here today, empowering lives and opening doors for future generations. Her legacy is proof that one person can spark real change. This Women’s History Month, we’re shining a light on Dolores Huerta–a fearless activist who fought for farmworkers’ rights. Born in New Mexico and raised in California, she co-founded the United Farm Workers (UFW) in 1962 with Cesar Chavez, pushing for better wages and working conditions. Her work led to the 1975 California Agricultural Labor Relations Act, giving farm workers the right to organize. In 2012, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her tireless efforts.
