Two of our members recently participated in the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice's annual Law Student Leaders Summit! AAJAI President Hon. Sanjay Tailor participated in small group discussions with law school attendees during the conference's lunch hour. Hon. Azeema Akram (pictured) participated on a panel titled "Technology and Access to Justice."
I am grateful to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice for the recent opportunity to speak at the annual law student leaders summit on "Technology and Access to Justice" alongside distinguished co-panelists: Reena Bajowala (Shareholder, Greenberg Traurig, LLP), Conor Malloy (Director of Innovation, CARPLS), and Kristen Sonday (Co-Founder and CEO, Paladin). Moderator Lisa Colpoys (Senior Consultant, AI Initiative, Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois) guided us through an engaging discussion that included: how process automation and technology-driven solutions can increase accessibility to legal resources; how technology can be used by courts for disability accommodations (which often involve necessary human elements); the use of technology and AI by pro bono programs and attorneys to serve litigants; and of course - professional responsibility and ethical issues relating to technology/AI, such as the unauthorized practice of law. Special thank you to Kathryn Hensley (Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts) for coordinating our panel, and to Catherine Armbrust Rajcan (Efficiency Reporting) for providing live CART during the program!
