Did you know that only 3% of Graphic Designers are black? Now that I can finally breathe, I'd like to share my senior thesis with you all. We were given a theme: Shape your world. I had no idea where to start but after A LOT of research and reflection, I figured it out. I'd like to present Part of the 3%, a clothing line crafted for creatives. I hand sewed a capsule wardrobe of clothing that is functional without sacrificing style. The pockets are large enough to hold your portable hard drive, pens, pencils, SD cards and anything else your creative heart desires. I was inspired by my own love of fashion and design combined with my desire for community as a black designer. I also created a website where users can not only shop but also donate to organizations that uplift black designers and creatives such as Where are the Black Designers?, African American Graphic Designers, and the Organization of Black Designers. This project is an extension of myself. It stems from the most important parts of my identity as a black woman. I hope you all enjoy it.
