A quick note about the 2025 AAC&U Conference on Learning and Student Success (https://lnkd.in/gQnq4qFd), or AAC&U CLASS:
We received an overwhelming response—almost 900 submissions!!—to the 2025 CLASS call for proposals. The AAC&U team is preparing to send out our decisions regarding submissions this week. We are beyond grateful to everyone for the time and effort it took to create a compelling proposal. The quality of the submissions exceeded our expectations. With so many outstanding submissions, we found it quite difficult to pare down the submissions to those that would fit within the CLASS schedule. As we began the challenging process of reviewing all the submissions, we were guided by a set of common values and aspirations for this new conference:
? AAC&U CLASS not only combines but extends and enhances the rich and diverse programming offered by AAC&U’s Conferences on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success (DESS) and General Education, Pedagogy, and Assessment (GEPA) through an integrated new approach to coming together to tackle today’s thorniest challenges facing higher education.
? AAC&U CLASS should be more than the “sum” of its programmatic "parts.” In other words, the Conference’s success will not be measured simply as a collection of excellent presentations but rather as an event that brings participants—both those longtime AAC&U attendees as well as those attending for the first time—into community with one another.
? AAC&U CLASS will showcase not only the work of established colleagues, but provide space for new voices, new approaches, and new ideas—voices, approaches, and ideas that we hope will inform and be informed by the broader burgeoning CLASS community.
? In a time of divisiveness and polarization, AAC&U CLASS will be an exemplar for civil discourse, robust debate, and dialogue across differences; a time, place, and space where we will do the hard work of modeling the very learning we expect of our students.
It is through the lens of these values that we made our decisions regarding each proposal. Our overwhelming goal was to accept and bring into community as many presenters as possible.?In order to include as many deserving sessions within the in-person program, we are asking many to present in a different format than originally proposed. Please know that a switch in format should not be read as a critique of the quality of a proposal; instead it speaks to our deep desire to have as many high-quality sessions on the program as possible.
So stay tuned for proposal notifications this week if you submitted, and to the release of the full program for everyone to see in the coming weeks. We are confident you are going to be as excited as the reviewers and the conference planning team with the program!
In the meantime, best wishes to you and yours for a peaceful end to 2024.
