?? Congratulations to the 21 recipients of the 2024 CVS Health/AACP Community Pharmacy Health Equity Award! The goal of the scholarship program, which was funded by the?CVS Health Foundation, is to support students who face financial barriers in pursuit of #pharmacy education including, but not limited to, those who identify as an underrepresented minority student, a student with a disability, or a student with previous or current military service. The award recognizes their exceptional leadership, dedication to advancing the profession of pharmacy, and commitment to improving patient care in underserved communities. Each recipient exemplifies the impact that pharmacists can have in promoting #healthequity. “AACP is grateful for the continued support of CVS Health as we work together toward fostering a diverse pharmacy workforce that will advance the profession and improve #patientcare,” said Lee Vermeulen, B.S.Pharm., M.S., FCCP, FFIP, AACP Executive Vice President and CEO.

The survey provides crucial #pharmacist workforce data, measuring everything from pharmacists' demand to changes in activities across practice settings to work-life balance, demographics and more. ??

"Another thing that I like to emphasize with my patients is the after-the-storm aspect," Dr. Brad Phillips, University of Florida College of Pharmacy, tells Drug Topics. "Educating my patients to make sure that they're examining their medications for any damage or tampering that may have occurred, while also keeping track of those medications and how much you have after the storm, is important." How should #pharmacists advise patients to prepare their medications for a #hurricane, given the potential for supply chain disruptions and power outages? Dr. Marlon Fuller asked attendees last week, during his keynote at the 2024 AACP Student Success Institute. Dr. Fuller (marlon F.) shared his personal story to remind attendees that academic performance isn’t always the full picture—external challenges play a role. The 2024 Student Success Institute focused on holistic approaches to student success, including creating environments where students from all backgrounds can thrive; implementing wellness practices; and fostering belonging across academic communities. We can never underestimate the power of three. The last 90 days at American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) have taught me so much and I’m grateful to assist and serve the profession in this way. Reusing an old line because a 3 word point platform can get a little cheesy but a lot of great things come in 3s like the Power Puff Girls and The Holy Trinity. Here are my Top 3 - ?Created The Pharmacy Guide to Student Loan Forgiveness/Repayment Programs - This guide, developed for student pharmacists, and pharmacists, aims to increase awareness of various loan repayment programs that reduce and eliminate this financial burden. It was a pleasure assisting in presenting this research at the National Pharmaceutical Association, Inc. Reception at American Pharmacists Association HQ. ?Spoke at Minority Pharmacist Entrepreneur Collaborative (MPECrx) - The only conference designed for minority pharmacists and healthcare professionals eager to expand entrepreneurial skills, build and sustain businesses, protect assets, and create multiple streams of income. We’re all about the streams so we have something in the works. ?Rallied for Medical Research - On September 19, over 250 advocates representing more than 30 states took part in more than 200 meetings with members of Congress and their staff. We rally for pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. It was a pleasure advocating with the Hydrocephalus Association. The goal is to “accelerate everyone” so it’s been exciting to Accelerate Advocacy with AACP. It’s almost like we’re charging up… …so allow me to be one of the first to wish you a Happy American Pharmacists Month ?? Shoutout to M.C. for hearing me out and considering my request. I believe we can provide the knowledge through our stories that shape a better future. Regardless of what happens, we will surely leave our mark ;) It’s all just a matter of time.
