As a Clean Technology Project Manager at Argonne National Laboratory, Richard supports the Sustainable Transportation and Education Partnership department’s mission to research, develop, demonstrate, and deploy cutting edge science and technology, create impactful education, workforce and equity-centered programming, shape sustainable transportation solutions, and build the next generation workforce to transition the nation to e-mobility. Prior to Argonne, Richard has worked for the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, CHPlanning Ltd., the Urban Institute, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. He has advised on transportation issues for federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency, and for organizations such as the Transportation Research Board, Smart Growth America, the Greenlining Institute, Securing America’s Future Energy, and the State Innovation Exchange. Richard holds degrees in chemical engineering with a Doctorate from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and a Bachelor’s from North Carolina State University. Among our regular offerings are our “Lunch and Learn” Speaker Series, our Legislative Issues and Public Policy (LIPP) programming, as well as many community-oriented events including educational and career-focused STEM programming with local schools, our annual Black Energy Awareness Month (BEAM) programming, and our Annual Scholarship Awards Program. Minority professionals, and allies, in all energy and energy-related disciplines (oil, gas, electricity, nuclear, renewables, hydrogen, energy storage, waste-to-energy, water, government, engineering, technology and energy services) are welcome to join. The breadth and depth of your individual experiences adds significant value to our membership and positions us to continually increase our collective knowledge about the industry. Our mission is to provide energy professionals, attorneys, executives, entrepreneurs, policy professionals, engineers, and students a pathway to learn more about the energy industry through education, mentoring, advocacy, community service and business networking. College students at locally accredited institutions studying energy-related fields, law and other graduate students with interests in the energy industry are also encouraged to participate in AABE.

Rebecca Kennedy is Principal Corporate Counsel at Microsoft, where she is responsible for helping to energize data centers in the Americas.? Before joining Microsoft, she served as an associate lawyer at a national law firm based in Washington, D.C., where she was part of a team serving as national outside energy counsel to one of the largest companies in the world.?In that role, she helped manage all aspects of data center electrification and development, while helping her client achieve its net-zero carbon emissions goals and its needs for 100% renewable energy.??She is committed to promoting energy justice, which she believes is critical to building a strong foundation for an equitable energy transition.? As Vice President of Gas Operations for Columbia Gas of Ohio, Vince Ransom is responsible for emergency response, operations, and maintenance of the distribution systems that provide safe, reliable, and efficient natural gas service to approximately 1.5 million customers in Ohio.? He has more than three decades of experience in the energy industry and has held numerous leadership roles with ComEd and PECO Energy.? He places a strong focus on employee engagement and development. Prior to his work with Columbia Gas, Vince served as the Director of Transmission/Substation Work Management & Business Support for ComEd, an Exelon company, with responsibilities including administration of a budget of almost $400 million as well as setting strategic direction for multi-year work plans and budget levels. A native of Chicago, Vince earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management/Human Resources from Rosemont College Bryn Mawr, Pa. and certificates from the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan’s School of Business. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Keith Wiggins, MBA has 15+ years of experience in engineering and management roles, including working as an engineer at PPL, where he was elected as the President of the African-American Employee Resource Group. Embracing his entrepreneurial spirit, Keith founded Greene Solutions, LLC in 2020, an engineering firm based out of Northern VA, supporting utility clients in the gas, power, solar, and telecommunications industry. Valencia McClure serves as Vice President, Governmental and External Affairs and President, Pepco Region, responsible for building and developing relationships with key stakeholders across Pepco’s District of Columbia and Maryland service area. She currently serves on the Boards for DC Economic Partnership, DC Builders Industry Association, Prince Georges County Business Roundtable, the DC Chamber of Commerce, and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. In 2024, Valencia was appointed to the DC Mayor’s Task Force on Chinatown/Gallery Place and was named as a Washington Business Journal Diversity in Business Honoree.
